DARTH MAUL VS GABRIEL (STAR WARS/ULTRAKILL)
CONNECTIONS:
From early on in their lives, both would be abducted into a religious order, the Sith and the Angels. Under the guidance of an incredibly powerful and evil figure, God and Emperor Palpatine, both would be trained to become an elite killing machine. They served as some of the greatest enforcers within their worlds, taking down numerous threats that posed dangers to their masters. Both of these religious factions would guide them towards the path of hatred, especially against a certain people, the Jedi and the Machines. Maul and Gabriel especially relish in slaying members of these groups, even compared to their peers.
One faithful day they would go into battle with a member of these groups, Obi-Wan Kenobi and V1, and to their utter shock, humiliation, and anger they were defeated. They would go onto to find out that they were betrayed by the people who raised them, with the Angels striking down Gabriel from Heaven because they believed he let the machine win, not able to comprehend the idea that a machine could beat an Angel, and Darth Maul presumed dead and later learning that Palpatine took on a new apprentice, never intending for Maul to truly become a Sith Lord.
Both would be fueled by absolute hatred, especially for Obi-Wan Kenobi and V1, more than ever before. They promised to exact revenge on them, and that's what they would later go onto do in their rematch. However, despite everything, they lost yet again. This time, they found a form of comfort in their defeat, with Maul dying and taking comfort in the belief that Obi-Wan would fall at the hands of the Sith, and Gabriel realizing that the hatred he felt was actually ecstacy, relishing the feeling of blood on his hands and fighting someone that was his equal.
They would also go on to take revenge against their people, with Maul forming his own empire, the Crimson Dawn, to overthrow Palpatine, and Gabriel going back to Heaven to kill all of the Angels, deducing that God's light has no longer shined on them and that they have grown corrupt. These would have contrasting results, with Maul being captured and his sibling being killed in the process, and Gabriel clearing out Heaven and putting the last Angel's head he killed on a spike.
Gabriel is an embodiment of a holy religious order of light, with said order being corrupt, very similar to the Jedi. Maul is a machine more than man, a machine held together by sheer rage, an embodiment of a mortal holding themselves together through pure darkness. Each other are the embodiments of what they absolutely despise.
