Wish Time

Times:

  • 1:23
  • 2:34
  • 3:45
  • 4:56
  • 12:34
  • 23:45

Rules:

  • No selfish wishes
  • No unrealistic wishes (like world peace)
  • No hurtful wishes

I know it’s childish… but is there actually anything wrong with this? Is this offensive to anyone in any way? I didn’t think it was, so I don’t get why anyone would ever get bitchy about it… but they do.

So, you’re wondering why do it when wishes never come true?

Well, surprisingly enough, that’s not what this is actually about. I’ve spent majority of the last two years stuck in hospital with absolutely nothing to look forward to except the unlikely event of actually recovering. Stuck in a hospital bed and only thing to hope for is to get better but no matter how much you hope, it doesn’t make a difference.

Hope or no hope – the chances are you’re a gonner.

And wouldn’t you feel even a little bit guilty that majority of your thoughts are all about you? So how about for a minute each day, you spare a thought for someone else. Is that so bad? It’s simple. Just wishing that tomorrow your friend has a good day, or that the nurse has a good day off tomorrow. That’s not so bad but it’s still stupid, right?

Should there be absolutely nothing for me to look forward to? Should there be no other reason to watch the clock other than to watch my life drain away? When the doctors were giving me shit figures like 8 weeks to live it really felt shit – really shit. When  the clock ticked round to 12.34 it felt better to have something else to think about.

And why not just take some time to make a wish? Yeah, it’s silly. It’s childish – but why the hell not? Don’t you think, after all the stress, it’s nice to just do something a bit silly? Not even just for me, but for whenever you’ve finished a hard day at work, or if you’ve been busy studying OR even if you just see the time and feel like it.

So that’s what it’s about. It’s not about making a real wish. It’s about having a moment to chill out and think about something nice. It’s about having little bit of hope and seeing a little bit of good. Who cares if it’s not real?
