OMG so I'm a day late with this, but I went back and gave my favorite Super Metroid bosses painting an HD overhaul for the occasion. When I first painted this back in 2009, full screen SD was still a thing and I was behind the times. So I've given it a full visual upgrade, increased the resolution like 3x, and gave it the standard widescreen aspect ratio. I've been really wanting to go back and give Ridley the artwork he deserves, and I was finally able to do it. This was supposed to be a simple upgrade, but it turned into almost a complete repaint. It was grueling.
I really hope you enjoy this, Ridley is an awesome boss and a terrifying villain. To honor the gamer community and Super Metroid for this 20th Anniversary, I left out watermarks and put up the download of the original. I don't care where you use it, just please don't alter it for your own work or sell it anywhere. It would be awesome to be credited if you use this image for anything on the net, but I don't require it.
I'm gonna move on to some other game fanart for awhile, I've been binging on Metroid a lot lately and I need a break.

I find the skeletal design you gave him here to be cool as it seems fitting for when he removed his cybernetics from the Prime Trilogy and Metroid 2/Samus Returns. A fitting design for fully embracing flesh after a long time.

lol, I'm pretty sure since it's Super Metroid and you have to have the Varia suit before you can even go into Norfair, the whole suitless thing might not work so great.

there are actually speedruns where the player goes through norfair without the varia suit.

Your rendition of this clash is awesome, I absolutley love the detail in Ridley's body and samus' suit. The color palette is also fantastic norfair never looked hotter!!

Thanks so much!! It means a lot coming from someone with your talent. It's so great to be able to connect with other Metroid fans, but other Ridley fans just take it to a whole new level.
I have a painting to do soon with a Mecha-Ridley fight, it's hard to try to design the scene right now lol. My mind keeps saying "But I already did Ridley over here!-->"

Oh..My..God...That is freaking awesome!! Ridley is a hard boss to get past. I remember tryingΒ everything to beat him on Super Metroid, till I figured out something

That is true. That Ridley fight in Other M was as tough, even if a bit tougher, than Super Metroid's Ridley fight. God, it took me a ton of tries to nail him.

That would be a good idea. When I started playing it all over again, I didn't pay no attention to the cutscenes...Cause I know what's going to happen.

Alright. Man, I've been learning about the Assassin's Creed games and I really want to play them, but I don't have the right game system for them. Rats! Oh, well...Maybe someday

I really like the drawing, but maybe you could add more contrast to the image, to highlight the dragon, everything is in the same color and tone, the drawing looses his focus. Maybe had some shadows behind the dragon or give him some reflections in a different color. You have to focus the action, and direct the eyes of the observer to the characters

oh my, you art is just incredible. I'm not an expert on this style myself as I my art is completely different, but I do know a good piece when i see one!Β
Your lighting and sence of shading/colour is spot on. All the shadows and highlights look natural and pleasing to the eye, and I love the dynamics and action of the whole piece!Β

Ive only done a couple semi-realistic backgrounds, they are fun to do but so hard because theres so much more to think about than colouring within the lines x3 I just really admire how you draw them!Β

Frankly, your style is just as difficult. It takes a really sensitive eye to be able to understand and execute soft lighting the way you do, as well as the soft color palettes you use. You really have it down, I have to work hard to pull it off and don't even get it right.

wow, thankyou very much for the compliment! That means a lot to hear, considering Ive worked really hard on utilising softer colours. Back in the day, i had no clue about colour satuation, so all my drawings used to be so bright they'd make your eyes bleed xDΒ
