This was a 500 mm zoom lens set at 380 mm. I was probably only 2-3 metres away. The bird was quite friendly, as robins typically are, and I was pressing to get up to the minimum range for the lens. What was surprising is the speed at 1/30th with a long lens but get it right and the clarity is brilliant. We won't talk about the rejects. It came together well, even to the extent of giving me time to change my battery at one point
