Your name is [first name] [last name]. You’re a sophomore in high school.

In your opinion, you wouldn’t say that you’re a wallflower, but you’re not like the most popular person either. You’re just normal. At least, that’s not what your best friend thinks. Sollux Captor. You two have been together for as long as you remember, yet that’s as far as you two have gone with the relationship. Of course, though, over the years you’ve developed a little growing crush on him, but you’ve never shown it. And you’re not sure if he feels the same way either, so you’re still pretty shy about that.

Anyway, even though you two are best friends, doesn’t mean you’re together all the time. You only have one class with Sollux this semester, which was Math. You were pretty smart in Math, but Sollux was just a bit better at it than you. You had to (painfully) admit that. But to be honest, it was your favorite class just because you got to be with him. It was easier because you two had the same homework and you could help each other with it.

It’s about the end of the semester, which means you’ll be getting new classes soon. Today is your last Math class. You were also thinking of confessing your true feelings to Sollux as well. And you knew just how to do it.

~Later~

So, it’s Math class and coincidentally you sit next to Sollux. “Hey, [nickname]. Finithhed the homework?” (You loved that lisp of his. It was funny..)

“Yeah, it was kind of difficult for me. Took me all night. What’d you get for the answer on #12?”

Basically, Math class went on with lectures from the teacher, lots of writing notes, and Sollux and you secretly trying to share answers to the upcoming homework when the teacher wasn’t looking.

~Time skip~

Finally, you only have 10 minutes of class left. Perfect. Now’s my chance!

“Uh, hey, Sol?” your voice is very hesitant.

“Yeah, what ith it-”

You quickly put a small sticky note on the desk that he’s currently sitting at. He tries to take a small peek at what it says (since it’s folded), but his action is interrupted by your speech.

“Woah, hold up. Just….read it when you get home, alright?”

“Uh, alright, I gueth..?”

And with that, you quickly head out the door and towards your locker on the other side of the campus, while taking a deep breath and smiling to yourself.

Okay, now what’s this….just a note. Doesn’t seem like there’s much written on it.

Not gonna peek. Of courthe not. [name] told me not to, and I mutht NOT betray her. That’th what betht friendth are for, right?

~ At your home ~

FINALLY, what a long and tiring day. At least it was Friday. If there was more school tomorrow, you probably wouldn’t have lasted any longer. Now, you’re at home, where you can do whatever you want.

But what’s more important is that note….You’ve been wanting to read it so badly all day. Luckily, you could resist and hadn’t read it yet.

You get to your room as fast as you can, slide onto your rolling office chair, switch on your desk light, and place the note on your desk. Finally, the moment of truth. As you open it, you think of the possibilities of what could be on the small piece of paper. What could it possibly say? Another hacking code? The answers to the next test? The meaning of all life? Well, actually, of course not the meaning of life. That’s impossible.

Just an equation.

Written on the note was just a small equation. Danggit. What the heck is this?

“9x - 7i > 3 (3x - 7u)”

Seriously, what is this? I gueth I’m…..thupothed to tholve it?

You get your notepad out and start solving it, you guess. Just to make sure, you write down every step.

7i < 21u
……

You read what the final equation was. Took you a few seconds to finally get what she was trying to say.

Tho….that’th what’th up…

A smile came upon your face as you got out of your seat to grab your phone and call up [name], to tell her about your feelings for her too. It all led up to you two having the same feelings for each other.

As you left your desk light on, the notepad with your work resting under the light, the final question was visibly shown.
