Oh I almost forgot I did these little speed paints while watching Big Hero 6 for like the millionth time with my kid :'DKazuhira Miller and Eli from Metal Gear Solid V.
A while back before my laptop got sent off, I made a point to record some cutscenes from the game to transfer to my computer, I wanted to get all the footage in HD on my laptop so I could trawl through at some point and get my own lovely caps of exactly what I wanted, for lighting and just, well, decent scenes that I personally liked so I could possibly try painting them for practice.
Unfortunately, my Venom has been a naughty sausage and is stuck in Demon mode (I may have built 2 nukes and spent a lot of time off the game) so he doesn't really make for lovely screencaps, but everyone else is fine
Kaz was from the ending and the Eli one was from when he first arrives at Motherbase, right when he gets off the chopper.
I can't say enough how beautiful the cutscenes look in this game, as many problems this game has, it is gorgeous.

The shading on both of these are great, what would happen if you combine it with your normal lining style and add color?

I'm not really good at painting in colour though, I have a problem making everything look washed out still. Really should practice though

A game artist that I've followed for a long time (Ian Mcconville he does Three Panel Soul if you're familiar) has said that he had practiced a lot by referencing color pallets in screen shots from games/movies/animation that had colors he liked or a mood he wanted. It sounds like you're already on your way to doing something like that with the collecting screen caps and stuff. May be something fun to try.
Several of my professors talked about keeping an image diary, where if you see pictures of something you like, in a magazine, or online, or in the world that you have to photograph yourself. Then keep them and then use them to help reference and inform your own work.

That would help a lot yea, I will probably take more videos from games I play to throw onto my computer since I've been gaming a lot XD Try use my game time as art time more, will feel a bit more productive at least
