Description This is simply an extension of the earlier Dalia Dreams image.  Still trying to figure out what I can and can't do.

Beautiful art, correct me if I'm wrong this is 3D art right? It's nicely done in human and umm the soul part(?), but I think you could improve a little in the environment and objects. The bed looks kinda hard in my opinion. Anyway nice job

Thanks!  Yep, it's 3D.  I agree think the surrounding areas are a bit dark.  I put a lot of work into that environment and the objects, and I feel like you can't see most them.

Ahh well...such is the learning curve.

You're welcome , but I really like your trees, plant and lamp design, also the... is cupboard the proper words? Sorry English is not my main , I also understand that high quality render takes a loooott more time, but yours is already look really good

Honestly, I'm not sure what we would actually call it in English.  The object was a bookcase, but I put decorative items on it instead of books.  It could be called a cupboard, or a display case, except those usually have doors that close.  I guess it's a bookcase that isn't really doing it's job.

Thank you so much for your kind words!

I also don't think of it as bookcase, my father something similar to that to put rocks/stones on it. You're welcome!

Beautiful illustration of lucid dreaming, I like the heavenly aspect to it!

Yay - that's actually exactly what I was going for.

This picture is actually one of a series of pictures (not all published) for a story I was working on last year.  This picture was supposed to represent the moment when she stopped simply sleeping and slipped into having a vision.  And she was supposed to be somewhat heavenly.  Have you heard of anthropomorphic personification?  It's basically just means a being willed into existence due to human belief in whatever it is they represent. Sort of like an Avatar.  The author Terry Pratchett did it a lot, his most famous version was the character DEATH (yep, all caps).

This girl was supposed to be the personification/avatar of Fate...and she's having a vision (bump, bump, buuuump).

I eventually decided the story was a little silly, but the scene did play out that once she slipped into the vision she knew exactly what was happening (exactly like a lucid dream).  I'm so happy you could see that!

Thanks so much for your kind words!

Ooooh well you grasped it perfectly!
I'd love to read that story! Are you planning on putting it somewhere or something? It's great sharing works when two writers converse!
I'd definitely look into that, it seems very interesting, you should definitely look into the French Surrealist movement, they were really interested in that kind of process in order to create!
No story is silly, stories are process' and when unsatisfied with it, go ahead and tinkle with it to make it as you wish!

You're welcome, you did a good job!

It's nowhere near completion and has been stalled for about a year now.  The problem isn't in the story itself - it's that I can't see the end.   It has to end eventually....I just can't figure out how.  Nor am I anywhere near completion of the illustrations.

But it's still there, bouncing around in the back of head - maybe one day I'll even figure out a non-clichéd ending.

Thank you for your kind words!

I agree.  To be honest, originally they did, but at the time I didn't really know anything about photoshop and by the time I was done their effect was pretty much nullified.  I knew so little in fact, that I didn't render or save in layers, making it difficult to go in and lift the lighting now. This was one of my first images, and unfortunately I started out with very ambitious lighting in mind.  While I achieved many of my goals, there are still things that I would change if I knew then what I know now (even though it was only like a year ago).

A really interesting piece! And you managed the odd lighting very well, in my opinion.

Great work! My only critique would be that it looks like the floating dream version of the girl is receiving a different light source than the girl itself.

Catalyst3D In reply to Seraitsukara [2015-07-10 14:05:04 +0000 UTC]

ahhh...that's cause she is.

Originally there were some God Rays in the picture which I used to make it appear as if she were being raised up towards a light - but they kind of ended up blending into the background (you can still see them if you look really hard).  This is one of my older pieces and unfortunately I my, still poor, photoshop skills were not really up to snuff.  Trying to get those rays to extend only half-way down was a bit difficult, it just looked odd when they came to a dead stop.  So I reduced their opacity, and by the time I was done in photoshop..well, like I said they are technically still there - there is a spotlight above the floating girl, but I tried to make sure there was no little to know overspill onto the character below - hence the different lighting.

I'm glad you liked it!

Thank you very much.  I really love work with lots of color, and I love contrasting light, which make lighting very difficult (at least for me).

Thank you again for your kind feedback!

Sorry, for the delayed response, I used Daz Studio and Photoshop.  I'm still trying to improve my Photoshop skills, but this is one of the ones where I feel the post-processing actually turned out ok.
