I've been designing covers for SE's volumes, so I decided to talk about my research discoveries with everyone.Feel free to agree or disagree, these are just my personal thoughts.

Graphic design and advertizing - nowadays it's required to have degrees or at least schooling in at least oneΒ of those to get a job.
I'm awful with tech - I can just barely operate Photoshop. There's no way I could make it dance and sing as required for being a professional graphic designer. I'm also not clever with design itself - my own covers are terrible. I'd never come up with something as cool as the cover for Jaka's Story. I'm pretty much a hypocritical critic in that regard.

Yes, you are being quite critical of yourself, but it does come with a good sense of humility.
I do feel that you could come up with something as cool as the cover for Jaka's Story (i googled it), but you might not know when you do, your most popular work may not be the work you personally feel is your best work.Β
Those degrees are likely necessary for most jobs in the corresponding fields, but I do believe there are other alternative routes to jobs in the comic book art field ( i dont know anything about this field). For example: through personal contacts, someone in the field that falls in love with all or one of your pieces, or something completely out of the blue, you never know that's the exciting and scary thing about life, anything can happen. Keep building your good rapport with the universe, so that when you are hit with a shock, you come up on top

I can tell at least one more thing from "True Blood" -- that cover reeks of Assumed Male Gaze. To viewers who enjoy ogling objectified female bodies, it will appeal. To viewers who prefer women as active characters, probably not.

I imagine it would also apply to video game covers as well.
I notice that books don't have this problem so much, since it's a non-visual medium so the themes/genre are often the first thing displayed rather than the actors.

Jaka's Story is one of the best graphic novels ever made, flaws and all. Didn't Dave Sim do the whole "I'mma make a 300 chapter comic!" on a dare?
I think the whole thing is a fascinating psychological study, right along with "In the Realms of the Unreal".
