Is she the same character from "The Bloody Forest" story?

Hahaha Good catch. NOBODY else has asked me that but yes that was the intention.

He probably just needs directions, having overslept for a couple thousand years.
On a serious note, love the detail on the mummy, along with how you draw your beauties and your beasts!

A nice contrast of the flip of her pretty blonde hair near the horrid rotten mummy.

Haha, yes, the old Beauty and the Beast combo is always a favorite for me.

The girl sort of reminds me of the first version Marvel had of Elsa Bloodstone before she became a ginger bad ass. I love all the rotten details on the mummy especially the clinging spider and slime webs. Β

Any monster that gives me an excuse to draw stringy, stretchy goo, makes me happy!!

MJMJR In reply to BryanBaugh [2017-02-20 19:49:56 +0000 UTC]

I'm surprised you don't draw some of the classic horror cartoon stuff in your style like Inhumanoids or The Real Ghostbusters then since slime and goo is like the mainΒ aesthetic of those series. Then again I think if you did your version of any of the 1980s animated characters it would be insanely awesome.

Probably because I work in animation as a day job, those subjects and characters tend to be the furthest thing from my mind when I'm doing my personal illustration projects.

For me:
Animation = Work
Comics & Illustration = Playtime.

If I was going to draw any animation characters it would be things from my late 70's - early 80's childhood like Scooby Doo or Dungeons & Dragons.

Matter of fact I did do a Scooby Doo themed commission assignment once, never posted on DA but you can see it here:

Those are around the same era as the ones you mentioned but I get it. Everyone has their favorites and I can see how if you weren't really into them it would be more like your job than the stuff you do for fun.Β

That Scooby Doo piece is awesome!

I love her complete lack of awareness to her surroundings and more the to the point, I enjoy your specialty in capturing the juxtaposition of vulnerability and horror!

Haha, nice observation on this piece and yeah, combining vulnerable girls and horror is something I do often in my artwork! Thanks for commenting!

For what this one ended up going for... welllll, it was still a BIT cheaper than a commission, but sheesh, folks! Congrats to the winner of the auction!

A damn bidding war erupted for this one!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

erebus7 In reply to BryanBaugh [2017-02-17 04:50:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I set my max bid at $35 back when it was twenty-six dollars!

Nearly doubled that.

Guess blondes DO have more fun!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BryanBaugh In reply to erebus7 [2017-02-17 05:27:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it sat at $35.00 for almost 3 days straight and I didn't expect it to go much further. But in the final hour the bidding got fierce. I was observing and by the end, there were 19 bids for this one piece, all from people trying to rapidly out-bid each other. The final sale price doubled.

Meanwhile somebody snatched Frankenstein for $20.00.
There was a tame competition for Wolfman, I think somebody won him for $25.00.

And to my amazement, the London Vampire with his sleek and sexy black gowned mistress - which I thought would be the top seller (just because of that sexy girl) - didn't get one single bid the entire auction!! I guess my predictions were completely off. Anyway London Vampire has been automatically relisted and is still available:

...And I am seriously considering doing another round of these. Though I haven't even started them yet so it may be another week before you'll see me post them.

Thanks for the kind words about my work overall, and specifically on this piece! ...Well it is still available to bid on at Ebay, if you'd like to own the original. Price is still fairly low at this point... A little over 3 hours left on the auction.

BryanBaugh In reply to japender61 [2017-02-16 20:36:41 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much! I've been so surprised at the reaction to this particular little 6"x9" Mummy piece. When I did my 4 Mini Monster drawings for the Ebay Auction, I assumed this one would be the least popular and might have trouble selling. Because, the Mummy tends to be one of the least popular monster characters (certainly, compared to vampires, werewolves, etc...). I also thought my female archaeologist appeared somewhat adorably ditzy, as opposed to the "strong female character" everybody gabbers about these days.Β

On the other hand, I thought for sure the London Vampire piece, would be the most popular by far, precisely because of its sleek, intimidating-stare-having, lacy-dress-wearing Female Vampire.

But I'm now into the final hours of a 5 day auction, and The Mummy seems to be the one everybody is fighting over, with many bids... While the London Vampire piece has STILL received NO bids!

CRAZY!! How is it that we artists always predict the public reaction to our work EXACTLY OPPOSITE of what it actually turns out the be?? Haha. Happens to me all the time.
