Heya, I did a thing? A while ago I came across a tutorial pattern by and tried it out, with not-so-stretchy cotton fabric. So the results may vary if you use minky fabric, which I imagine behaves similar to fleece fabric. Also minky shouldn't fray unlike woven cotton. Had to take extreme measures and seal the edges with glue

The head is... yes, it's a head.
But the body gives a good impression on how a more complex pattern could work. Although the hip part was quite tricky for me, and I watched his tutorial video about the inner part of the hind legs several times to fully understand where it is attached. But the small cut (which made my fabric fray like mad) definitely pays and gives so much shape to the hind legs.

tl;dr great tutorial pattern, imho the best free one, and a good start for new plush makers

Thank you!
Yeah, the head pattern isn't all that great, but it's amazing the difference the stretch makes for any shape.
I wouldn't say it's the best free one per-se, but it does come with a tutorial that would work with most all the other ones free and paid. ^^

As for the fraying of the inner hind leg part, for non-stretch fabrics, what you might be able to do is open the slit so instead of a '\/' shape, you get more of a "\_/" shape and then dart what's folded by the two seams.

you're welcome!
The slit was opened with a single cut, giving as much seam allowance as possible. Everywhere else the fabric had about 1.5cm (0.5 inches?) seam allowance and made use of it. Gluing the tight hip part was kind of inevitable ^^*

I was (and am still) quite excited about this pattern as an introduction to pony plush making. Most tutorial patterns for ponies are in a very simplified style or intentionally cute / chibi-like. Which is great if someone searches for a small pony e.g. for the desktop, but don't help that much if you are looking for a more 'realistic' plushie. So I'd like to sincerely thank you for providing this pattern. I have seen a lot of great plushies with this kind of hind legs, but had no idea how to make one or even where to start

Ah, well that's understandable.

Well, that's true. plus there's show style vs. realism in general. A lot of people like the chibi style though.
You're quite welcome and I'm glad it helped!
