IP-Pageant - August - Occupation — Description
"So, uh... this is kind of the exact opposite of last month. T-that's what I wear to get people to relax around me... this is what I wear when I need people to be afraid. No Buckoe this time... h-he doesn't like fire. And, uh- this isn't actually blood. It's fire-resistant paint, f-for a bit more intimidation. I haven't actually killed anyone- j-just hit some people."

Yaotzin is currently on a cruiser-class ship that (on paper) is nothing but a simple trader's ship. They tend to wander around the edges of civilization, and they usually just trade things between planets. They do keep an eye out for one particular type of ship, though; slave ships. When they find one, they turn pirate, and they basically ransack the ship in order to free the slaves. Slavers tend to violently protest that, so the captain usually takes some of his more intimidating crew members with him. Six foot plus of demonic-looking, armor-clad, pyrokinetic muscle tends to do the trick.

As you can see, Yaotzin is a pyrokinetic. His ability can be extended to normally inflammible objects, allowing him to do things like set a metal trident and his armor on fire. However, said ability doesn't actually burn whatever metal thing he's lit, it just lets him coat things in flame. The exact temperature of the flames varies depending on environment, but he's at least as hot as a decent-sized bonfire, and you definitely don't want to try hand-to-hand combat with him. The trident is honestly more for show than anything else at this point, though he can throw it or use it to break/lever open various barriers.

The bodysuit under his armor is a material used by a race of beings known colloquially as "lava lizards", semi-reptilian beings who are highly fire-resistant and live in and around volcanoes. It's woven from the fibers of a vine that thrives inside volcanoes, and it's fireproof up to magma temperatures. The armor is multiple materials based on where it is on his body, but the majority of it is metal of one type or another. None of that would survive being thrown into the center of an active volcano, but then again, neither would Yaotzin.

The trident is simple because barbs, decorations, or anything else complicated would probably just get stuck in the various things he tends to jam it into. It's a durasteel blend, nearly impossible to break by any means not involving heavy machinery or concentrated acid, and it doesn't blunt easily. He'll use it to pry open doors, break chains (Chainbreaker is burned into the base, though it's a bit tricky to see), lever heavy objects around, and stab security drones. He doesn't tend to use it on people because red-hot durasteel tridents cause wounds far worse than what he's willing to cause. It's basically a crowbar/"Raar I'm a demon" prop.

The rune-like pattern on his armor has no real meaning, it's just for show. The spikes on his left shoulder are also mostly for show. The pitchfork is his primary weapon, as well as whatever random objects (a set of leg irons, here) he decides to pick up, ignite, and throw. Yaotzin can't wield any sort of blaster because his flames would either melt or detonate it, so someone with a gun of some sort usually lurks in all that smoke he creates. It's very difficult to see exactly what (or who) is behind him, especially since you'd need a gas mask to walk through how thick that smoke gets in a confined space like a hallway.

Yaotzin has never been a very aggressive person, and he never will be. However, if you put him on a slave ship, he can usually muster up enough outrage to stalk through the hallways like the demon people mistake him for. He won't kill, but any slaver who gets too close to him is going to regret it- especially after he's seen what kind of shape the slaves are usually in. Protective rage usually gets him mad enough to hurt someone- or at least absolutely terrify them and chase them down three hallways.

This month's theme is occupation, and the bonus theme is patterns. I chose not to do a detailed background because you can't really see anything behind Yaotzin when he gets going, just a thick cloud of smoke- and steam if the air is wet enough or someone douses him in an effort to put him out. Also, I quite like how he stands out against the smoke.
