Description
September 19, 2004.My sister stole some charcoal from school and gave it to me, and this was the result.
It was rather an accidental doodle, seeing as it's on lined paper, but when my dad's girlfriend's daughter Kristen saw this, she became emotional and really gravitated toward this piece, so I'm dedicating this upload to her. Otherwise I wouldn't have considered it (being on lined paper etc).
It's people like Kristen who remind me that even my accidental drawings can be worth it, that everyone sees something new, something different, about my work. When sometimes I can't see anything at all.
--
Edit: Thanks to everyone, the suggester, the featurer, and all of you who made me feel incredible and gave such amazing comments. It's people like you and Kristen who make me feel like I'm doing the right thing.
Someone tried reporting this as a misplaced deviation, I'm assuming a scrap... dA overruled your suggestion.

The emotion in this is amazing. It makes me think of Amelia Earhart for some reason.

Thank you so much! Does this look like Amelia Earhart, I wonder? I've never seen her face close up.

You're welcome ^^ It kinda does, actually: [link] I didn't have a really clear idea of her appearance either before I looked it up; that was just the impression the photo gave me.

Wow, I think I see what you mean! She has the same sort of wide-eyed "I'm interested in something but you can't tell what it is" look. I love that.

Thank you so much! I really do love charcoal, I just never seem to get into it enough outside of school. Perhaps I should!

i am in love!!
this is so beautiful! i love her expression, like she's suprised to see someone and trying not to look more shocked...i don't know, something like that.
either way, it's gravitating, just wanna look for ages trying to work out just what she's thinking....i definatly think the lined paper affect lol, adds to the spontiniety!
im off to check out more of your work.....

I just stumbled across this - but I have to say, I adore it!!
Accidental or not, there is something almost... endearing (?) about this piece. You want to know her, she looks all cheerful and innocent.
Great job here!!

I love it- those piercing eyes, that perfectly realistic nose (so many people cheat on noses), and those almost elfin lips. Gorgeous. You give me reason not to fret when I run out of room in my sketchbook. ... lined paper... wow.

Her eyes are brimming with life. Almost spooky, but absolutely captivating. I can see why your dad's girlfriends' daughter felt such strong emotions about it. I would too if someone showed me this as a "doodle" - I'd demand a few free art classes too

lol, sometimes I hate it! But this one seems to enjoy being on lined paper, so I guess it really depends on the nature of the piece.
I was just testing out the charcoals.
And thanks so much!
