This made me feel sad, because the idea of santa seems so corrupt and greedy, then seeing this poor, haggard man...

The subtle differences in the chromatic grays are fabulous- and the deep contrast works great. So, technical aspects, well done, from my view.
When I first saw this, before reading the comments, I saw it more of an ironic statement than something funny. I guess this man looks quite poor, and the idea of him being Santa Claus, giving things to the world when he is so destitute- that was quite poignant.
Then I realized he might be gifting the things in his trash bag, which would certainly not be nice, and so he took on this bitter characteristic in my mind- the Santa Claus kicked out of his house in the North Pole because he couldn't pay the rent, and so he spread his cynicism everywhere.
Then, while reading the comments, I still couldn't quite get the funny aspect. Maybe I'm just bad with expressions, but his face seems so much more pained than evil, that I just can't with the murderer.
Regardless of what the meaning is supposed to be, I think you've done a great job here presenting a photo and giving a caption that provide clues but are still left up to the viewer's imagination.
