Description
On September 17, 1990, Yolanda Saoul was born in the only town brave enough to release her into our world: Sparta, ancient homeland of the hoplites of the Hot Gates. Legend would have you believe, as Sheol is currently holding its family hostage at gunpoint, that lightning had struck her pregnant mother in the womb, and the baby just kept refusing to die from there. Good, Papas would say. "Pater", he would correct. He was Geron Saoul, heir to the Phylax Corporation, grandson of its founder, with 323 confirmed kills under his belt and 453 more which can be reasonably assumed. The plan was always to turn his daughter into a child soldier.
This does not mean that Saoul does not remember her parents fondly. She does. She shouldn't. She was taught how to reassemble an assault rifle from the moment she could aim it straight. She took to military training fondly. It made her parents proud of her! It made Uncle Bucky sad though, for some reason. Whenever the walls talked, it sounded a lot like Uncle Bucky getting mad at her parents. Whenever he babysat her, she did no drills. Instead, those days she'd be trained in extracurricular activities like "catch", "television", and the most confusing of them all, "just being a kid". Whatever lesson Uncle Bucky had desired to confer upon her, it would be aggressively interrupted for the next twenty years. The family shipped out to Afghanistan in January 2002. Their deaths in the Taliban raid on the Phylax outpost started hitting newspapers before Yolanda turned 12.
Saoul herself had yet again refused to die that traumatic night. She defended her corner with a bayonet until ammunition suddenly stopped coming to her rescue, at which point her attackers realized that this kid knew how to shoot a gun and kidnapped her from the smoldering wreckage they left behind. She wasn't dumb enough to resist, but her situation afterwards also couldn't be comfortably labeled "desirable". Records are fuzzy about how she escaped the first troop, but when puberty eventually caught her wandering alone on the wartorn streets of Herat, she had to come to terms with what the cost of survival realistically was. Provable anecdotes only start to emerge in 2011, when one of the biggest bosses in the Afghani underworld was found impaled and crucified in his own magnificent oikos. The "Bactrian Thespian", as she was then called, now unwrapped her little finger from her boy toy and sat upon his throne, greedy as the grave, and like death is never satisfied. She was Yolanda Sheol, queen of the dead, daughter of Zeus, and she missed her family. Luckily, whichever rat bastard stole her company was willing to welcome her home. Her station in Indianapolis has since opened up a whole new network of invaluable friendships and inseparable family. Uncle Bucky's even alive again! It's nice to live in a world for once where a lowly mass murdering psychopath can finally chase her own demons away and breathe! Gee willickers, Tiny Tim, maybe she'll even call off that gunpowder plotting under Parliament! For Christmas!
Design notes, eyyyy look who's canon again, everyone's favorite disaster psychopath! She knows she's everyone's favorite because she's most wanted by Interpol for crimes against humanity :3 I came up with this character damn near ten years ago, 2017, just to be the Devil's wacky assistant. In case the design didn't make it obliquely obvious, the intention 18-year-old me had was to rip off Argit from Ben 10, and I frankly refuse to apologize. I cleaned her up a bit, shaped her outfit to more closely resemble a Greek linothorax, and decked her out in some kit I think she'd have equipped even in situations where it would not be socially acceptable. Don't let the fact that she's on the good guys’ side fool you: Sheol is the lightning that will strike you twice. Dusk Alimar swears up and down that he can “fix” this one though, so we just kinda have to… keep her, preferably under surveillance.
