Chae-won — Description

It's my friend's birthday today, so I drew her persona! Two versions actually, this is just the base outfit. Not much to go into here, as I mostly freestyled within the bounds of her stipulations. I mainly drew inspiration from Scottish and Japanese fashion and came out with this very cozy-looking combination which my friend was pleased with. The one thing she really got on my ass about was the katana XD Originally, I wanted to try and create a more European-style blade whose elements come together to resemble a katana, so I based it off of a messer, which is the closest shape to the katana. She didn't quite care for that, though, so I leaned a little more into that classic Japanese style instead. It doesn't exactly come across in this drawing, but the way I ultimately envisioned the hilt was kinda halfway between the two continents. The guard sorta begins as the ricasso/habaki and then curves outwards to create a circular hilt shaped like sun rays, with one pair of beams a little longer than the others sticking out from the main circle to form a more European-style crossguard. I think it looks pretty sick, and she was really happy with it too. That's what really matters ^^
