I also recommend you give all large celestial objects -- including moons -- an outer glow to some extent. Even if they don't have an atmosphere, when you look at our moon from a distance in space, you can see a tiny bit of glow from the reflection of sunlight.

Nah, it's mainly because of light reflection. Have you seen Apollo video or pictures, and thought to yourself, "why can't I see the stars above"? Well, it isn't because of a conspiracy by NASA and the United States -- it's because the light being reflected from the sun is drowning the light from stars above so they're not visible.

When map making fictional worlds, it is best to have the technologically advanced continent be the least compact continent; a temperate continent with many peninsulas and islands creates a naturally balkanizing environment, leading to many different nations forming, and overall, greater competition between those nations leads to technological progress. In our history, both China and Europe had the same resources to flourish, but while China remained stagnant, Europe speeded past China technologically; this is because China's unity, politically, although advantageous in the ancient world, was eventually it's technological downfall against Europe, since individual rulers could stop progress altogether, while in Europe, states were extremely hostile and always fixing to get an edge over the other.
