Description

Fliz found Troi waiting excitedly outside of the cave. It seemed like he was about to burst with joy. “Hey! You remember that time lath-t thummer when you showed me how you could influenthe the air temperature?” The blue dragon couldn’t help laughing at this display, but finally nodded. “I do.” “It juth-t occurred to me, I can do thomething like that too! Can I show you?” Troi happily leapt out of the way as his friend joined him on the snow covered stone rise, and lead her out to the meadow. Once there, he got busy drawing the necessary design components for the rune. “Ma had me thet thith up when I wath math-tering the fire medallion to keep me from overheating. It’th more direct than what you showed me, but It’th thimilar.” Troi finished tracing the boundary of the rune. He then stepped into the circle and drew the rune symbol for ice; a set of three lines ending in sharp angular points. The black dragon made room for Fliz to join him within the circle. “I’m really curious to see how this works.” She said as she laid down and snuggled up next to Troi affectionately. Troi reached out and placed his paw on the rune which started to glow. The change was slow as the magic took effect. Nothing seemed to change initially. The air began to sparkle with ice crystals, slowly becoming hazy as more and more of them fell. Fine lines of ice grew in the gaps between scales on both dragons, steadily muting their natural colors. In a short period of time, a cascade of small icicles dangled from the edge of each glittering scute. Where the crystals had gathered on Fliz’s mane or in the fur around Troi’s chest and ears, it made the soft hairs stiffen with countless microscopic white spikes. Even the snow within the boundary became thicker, resembling a plush mat of delicate crystalline fibers. The increased chill settled around them as though the air itself had frozen solid. Neither dragon experienced any discomfort from the effects of the runes’ magic, being naturally attuned to such harsh conditions. Fliz finally shook herself, releasing a cloud of the tiny white crystals from her mane. “Aaaahhhh. Now that feels nice.” She glanced down at the glowing symbol traced in the snow. “This particular design would be good for practical applications. You’re link with this kind of magic

is fascinating.” Troi leaned over and rubbed against his friend with a quiet purr. “Thankth Flith.”
