I definitely agree with you regarding the way the writers handled the whole Horizon episode with Ash or Kaidan. And it was especially hard to swallow for those of us who  had decided to romance either one of them. However, the only reason I made this particular piece is because it was a request.

The truth is, although I certainly don't hate her, I honestly don't like Ash and she was always absent from my ME2 and ME3 playthroughs. After the infamous speech she gave about aliens onboard the Normandy in ME1, I had my first Shep completely ignore her for the entire duration of the game so there was never any real bond between the two. I did use Ash on a few missions because her Soldier skills were needed, but that's about it. 

That being said, I  should probably go on YouTube and take a look at the Ash romance in ME1... it might change my mind about her, who knows...

Hi, you're most welcome!   Oh, understood!  Yeah, blame the writers again for Ash being more than slightly intolerant of non-humans...maybe if her family's history of disgrace because of that surrender to the Turians had been different? :/  Ash still REALLY didn't like those Earth First bigots, though, so it's not like she was on the dark side.  She's just...well, human!

I never thought of romancing Ash, but I think you'll like her anyway!  Ha-ha, in the story I'm writing, Paramour, I do have in mind Ash being given a talking-to by another character (not Shepard!) when she gives her 'humans come first!' opinion again.  She'll really take a long look at herself, something the writers maybe should have thought about.  Ash does work with aliens as comrades, after all!  Happy Friday to you!

It seems to me like Ash was a rather contradictory character. As you mentioned, she came off as a bit of xenophobe to start with but then she did have to learn to work with AND trust aliens... I definitely like your take on where the writers could have gone with the character. I do believe that their main mistake was to paint her in such a negative light to begin with. Had this not happened, it would have been a lot harder for me to let her die on Virmire. I mean, I knew I had to choose Kaidan because my Femshep was romancing him and I thought he was really adorable... but I'm pretty sure I would have felt really bad about the whole situation if my opinion about Ashley had been completely different.

Thank you very much, and yes, first impressions are the ones that really count!  One of the reasons I stuck with Ash being in my party most of the time was to see where the writers would go with her, but...that didn't exactly happen.  As a fellow fan and a writer, I always thought Bioware could have done more with Ash and many of the characters.  I wondered about Virmire too, if the writers wanted us to lean to one choice or the other.  I never liked the idea of sacrificing Ash or Kaidan!

Yay!!! I'm so happy you liked it! I would have liked to put them in their armours but thinking back on it, I'm not sure I would have been able to get the same romantic and very intimate atmosphere I wanted to bring to this piece.
