Description Drawn in under 3 days. Was running low on time, but I felt I had to create something for my 4th year here at DA. Artwork is roughly based on a concept when the nelri began to design flightsuits. It was not long before the age of space exploration when the one portrayed here was designed as a basic prototype that allowed the nelri to be the first to create a winged flightsuit that did not require cybernetic enhancements to operate. In theory, the wings were articulated through the combination of a nelri pilot's psychic brain wave activity, and the flightsuit's figure-contouring necessity to tap into the host's central nervous system and muscle fibres. Electromagnetic currents were also used to back it up, in case of pilot fatigue, from a compact MS07r moonstone power source.

Very beautiful picture! I love how the posing turned out on her. You worked really hard on the angelic wings as well.

Thanks!

The wings... well sometimes I feel I could have done better on their design, but I'm still happy with them as a type of prototype.

I love the fluidity of the wings - looks "molten" - very aerodynamic. In agreement with Wraith11, there is a very strong sense of freedom in this art. For me the wings are the seller.

That's cool, I really like the unusual angle you chose. While I like this concept of a flight suit, I think I like seeing the Nelri in simple "medieval" costuming.

Even when, due to popular opinion, the nelri wear hardly anything at all? Hehe, thanks, Liz.

I love those shiny wings, darling <3 And the hair is also turbo awesome--I'd flip mine around every-which-way if I could zip around in a flightsuit. The figure-work is also very nice in this! An excellent, dynamic pose ;}

Happy fourth-anniversary <3

Thanks! The wings in themselves are very flexible. I wanted to portray that in the nelri's artform in even the metal side of things. Not sure if I'm overly happy with how the design of these wings came out though. Yet, because it's a prototype, the design doesn't have to be the best on offer.

It looks great though. You can always fine-tune the look later, but for now it's stunning!

I like how she looks clothed, yet you can still see all the muscles and clean lines. Great!

Wow that's beautiful, I love the color choice on this one. The view from below especially enhances the flying feeling of the character. I also find it interesting that her face is hidden, gives her a sense of mystery, perhaps making the viewer concentrate on the specialized suit for her Lovely job overall!

Aikurisu In reply to wraith11 [2007-11-18 15:17:18 +0000 UTC]

Possibly. I wasn't intending it to be an official work for the archives... but the more I look at it, the more it makes sense. The prototype was merely designed to focus on its flight capabilities, so not a whole lot of attention went into the design and protection of the suit. The wearer's story for supporting the project was that she wanted to defy the fate that was handed to her as a nelri. As the name means 'fallen ones' in the ancient tongue-- seeing a nelri fly with their own wings was something few ever dreamed about. Plus I was in a Last Exile frame of mind. I was almost tempted to entitle this as "To the Skies"

Dunne In reply to wraith11 [2007-11-16 16:35:24 +0000 UTC]

You'r right, I agree, the sepia tones add a archival record feel to it. It makes you wonder why the apollo program didn't try some sepia in their film repertoire. More than likely they just wanted the data.

Besides apollo and flight....

You could just say the Nelri like making anything they do to be art. Why just collect data when they can turn it in to an art piece at the same time? They are definitely very involved with the arts at heart, excuse me for saying it, even in the art of war as well. As for science, It might be a short sighted observation, but they intertwine it with their arts very deeply even if it appears on a surface level.

wraith11 In reply to Dunne [2007-11-19 13:24:10 +0000 UTC]

Someone should go back with some movie editing software and make a few changes to the digital versions of those NASA films

I guess at least art tends to last longer and remain in the conscience for longer than simple fact. I mean, what's remembered more easily: a good book or a dry journal article? I guess the only sort of schematic diagrams that are really, and I mean REALLY well remembered belong to Da Vinci... and those were pretty much works of art anyway.
