im stuck on the step 2.....
everytime when i drag the splines on the nurb...it goes red and i cant do anything

not bad, although you cant really control the thickness of the result.

yes you can, if you duplicate and composite the spikey objects an other way the outcome will change.
the render for breakthrough had more thickness then the outcome of this tutorial.
