You seem to have a very advanced grasp on painting. It says you are an art student, i am as well. May i ask where you attend school? I go to NHIA.

Thank you very much! I go to Southern Illinois University Carbondale. I'm a flatlander They have a great art program for a state school, and it worked for me since I'm getting a BA as well as a BFA. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work. What are you studying specifically? What are you interested in?

I am currently studding for my BFA in Illustration. During the last year i have realized that even though i like the creative aspect of the course, I really wish to pursue a degree in sculpture. I may finish my illustration degree here and move on to my masters in sculpture elsewhere. I would love to show you my work, unfortunately alot of the better stuff that i have produced in the last year is stowed away at my mother's house. I think i have some three dimensional work that i have lying around that i would love to post.

Very cool. Illustration is awesome. Unfortunately, it's not offered at SIU. It gets lumped in with Comm Design, and I'm not really up for programming websites. I'm getting my double for drawing and painting, and kudos to you: I took my required sculpture course this past semester and I thought I was going to die. There's one more left, but it's metals, glass, or ceramics, so it shouldn't be so bad. And I know the feeling; all of my current paintings were left in storage for the summer since I am stupid and decided painting on sheets of plywood was a good idea XD You should definitely post more :3 Any artists in particular driving your work at the moment?

I was going to be a media arts and animation major a few years ago, but i don't think i could settle for being a member of a production team. I prefer traditional media anyways. Its unfortunate, because if you aren't a painting or ceramic major at my school, it is difficult to get into sculpture. I would love to work with glass and metals, I think that would be very fun. Its hard this summer because I'm lacking in the financial part of art... so supplies=no art. I really like Lee Bontecou's sculpture in particular. I work at my school's library so I'm constantly looking at different artists.

That's unfortunate. I know how it feels to choose between eating and paint. And I'm familiar with Lee Bontecou's work. Do you like working in textiles as she does, or is it the general form you're interested in? I'm currently looking at Lucien Freud, Ivan Albright, and Michael Hussar in my paintings studies ^^

I tend to draw inspiration from form more effectively. I find everything about her work fascinating, but i really like the atmosphere she creates in particular. Right now i'm playing with paper, tin cans, and antique, rusted materials. I draw inspiration from almost anything. Have you heard of Kris Kuksi?

Very cool. And I have heard of Kris Kuksi. I love his work. He was actually at SIU this passed year as a guest judge for our RZ award, a kind of best of show contest for seniors. He also did a lecture. It was pretty amazing. He's got a deviantart account, too, if you hadn't found that. It's pretty fascinating what he does.

I love his work. I wish i could see some of it in person. That's pretty amazing. I would have loved to be there. We don't get many renowned artists here, but sometimes we get a few. Last semester we had Gary Kelly do a lecture. How long have you been at school?

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm hoping this year is less stressful than my sophomore one. I did my BFA review. Man, that was stressful.

What does your bfa review entail? Every year we have to have an end of the year review and in your final year, you have to do a final review.

Since I'm at a state university, they require a bfa review where they look at your portfolio in a gallery either your sophomore or junior year where the department heads decide if you're good enough to be in the program. They can bounce you out if not. We also have a final review before graduating to make the overall choice as to whether or not you deserve your bfa. Pretty intense.

Our end of the year reviews are sort of like that. We have them every year, but they are relatively kind the first time around. (I think its because they want to get another year's tuition out of you) But after that they start thinning out the herd. During this past year's finals, a large majority of the illustration seniors got failed in senior studio. We all learn to fear the wrath of the department head.

Yeah, i only started using oil paint this passed year. It's super fun, but yeah, can be technically overwhelming if you've got no one to show you the basics. Glad you like! ^^

I never said I was the original artist, I said I got permission from someone who claimed to to use it, I had never seen the sketch nor heard of SK, therefor I did not steal but acquired an image from somebody that has turned out to be of questionable origin, you cant call me a theif if I didn't know the proper origin and that I had the ok from the creator

no I'm not, to be a thief you have to intentionally take something, I did not,

yep. i'm glad. i probably wouldn't have been so pissed if it had been almost anything else in my gallery. that drawing happened to be for my little brother, who i'm very close to, and who recently has been having medical problems (plus i'm just not very fun when i'm f*cked with ^^). So he just screwed the wrong person over the wrong shit on the wrong day lol...
