A personality disorder is something that affects some aspect of someone's personality. In other words', "My life was/is crap, now I have to hurt other people/myself." (Though most of the time they don't mean to... er..., I guess that depends on why normal people are mean. Normal people are quite sadistic and often choose to harm others...)
