Oh wow - that was beautiful
I love the way the forest entity was portrayed, how it was both helpful and dangerous, how it literally drew blood from the kid to save his life. There was something really visceral about the kind of healing magic it used - I liked that it had to involve blood. It feels like old, real magic, if that makes sense. The entity reminded me a little bit of Dream from The Sandman, both in character design and in being almost above normal morality. I wonder if it's the same entity from "The Yawning Grave"?Β
I want to listen to more Radical Face now

Yeah, you're right-- the fact that she bit him and took blood really adds to the story and the magic.Β Kind of a magic-with-a-price feel, rather than something sterile and shiny.Β I love her design too, the antlers and the bioluminescent eyes are so beautiful and unsettling.
& I must thank you for mentioning Yawning Grave.Β I had heard it before but never really paid close attention to the lyrics, which I now love.Β I can't help but wonder if that is related to Meet Me in the Woods, like maybe Yawning Grave is narrated by one of the things in the woods?Β Definitely could be the being from Midnight.
I love Always Gold!Β That one is brilliant and a beautiful depiction of brotherhood.Β

All I know is, "Yawning Grave" must be related to "Frozen Pines", because the one leads so perfectly into the other that they're practically one song. I think "Yawning Grave" is about someone who invokes the wrath of some ancient primal force and vanishes, presumably meeting some dark fate, and then "Frozen Pines" is about that person's friend trying to find them and figure out what happened. I think the "Meet Me In The Woods" connection holds too - in fact, I'm pretty sure all the songs on Strange Trails are connected in one way or another. I think that in some ways, all Lord Huron's songs might be connected, because you get things like the World Ender being mentioned in "Secret of Life" on Vide Noir hinting at a greater interconnected story behind the albums. Maybe we'll find out more once that Vide Noir movie comes out.
"Along the Road" was strange - not what I was expecting, what with all the creaking like a wooden ship or an old house, but haunting and beautiful in its own way. Still need to listen to a whole bunch of others - what with the whole quarantine thing I guess I haven't got much else to do rn

Yes, pay attention to the lyrics! Not just because of the lore, even, but because they're just so goodΒ Β They tell such great stories, you know? And they're so loaded with feeling. "The Birds Are Singing At Night" really gets to me especially - it touches on themes of friendship and mortality and legends living on after death and just the incredible scale of nature. Like... "when we're dead and gone/will the mountains remember/or just carry on/moving as slow as the forest grows/and turn our bones into dust/an untold legend is lighting up". Just... that we're so small and brief, but the universe is so vast and beautiful and powerful. It gets me right in the soulΒ Β
Gah, I'm looking forward to the movie so much! I hope the release isn't too affected by the coronavirus - like, hopefully they end up releasing it online or something? I just desperately need it in my lifeΒ Β
I think I might need to give "Along the Road" a couple more listens. I don't really know what to make of it right now, but I think I like it? I'm really liking this kind of music right now, kind of folk/indie/acoustic-leaning stuff. I hope that makes sense my brain is tired

Yesss I love narrative lyrics so much!Β Songs that tell a story are moving in ways that like, breakup lyrics aren't.Β I really love the way that one connects humanity to nature, the way it implies we live on in nature even after we're gone.Β Lord Huron really does have some gorgeous ideas in their lyrics.
I haven't heard much about the movie?Β But I do hope it comes out soon.Β I'd really enjoy seeing how their ideas play out in a different medium like that.

Because I found it extremely relatable. I feel like I'm constantly split in terms of energy, and trying to put everything I've got into anything can just be exhausting. The idea that I can get by on 5% is a nice thought.
