Reunion: Part 9 — Description
It was cold when Max entered the underground room beneath the tree stump. The egg he had received in Gambitville was resting in its makeshift cradle with a small contained fire burning underneath it. Another fire located in a nearby indent in the earth was already lit and Max surveyed the room and after a few minutes, decided that it would need a few more logs added to the fire to keep it going through the night.

Max had been informed that one of the eggs parents had been a fire type but there were also several other type the baby could hatch into and as such they had been instructed to keep the egg ‘hot but not too hot’, least the baby wasn’t a fire type and the baby’s health was compromised. The room that he and Jessie had claimed as theirs was located several feet under the stump and as such, was comprised of mud and rock more than any of the stumps old trees roots. This was the only reason that Fushi allowed the small fires to burn for so long in the first place. Though it was dark most times of the day, there were small cracks and crevices in the walls that allowed fresh air and occasionally moonlight to circulate throughout the room.

As he glanced around the room, Max was astonished to discover Jessie already in bed and seeming fast asleep as his chest rose and fell peacefully under the bluish-purple doona they had acquired from Fushi’s mother while in Sapling after she had heard about her sons rather nasty plight of him and his friends being kicked out of the village.

As he studied the egg, Max decided that the room wasn’t the best living space for it despite the convenience and he’d ask Fushi about possible other arrangements tomorrow. It really had been a rushed thing after all, they had only arrived back home today and were rushing when they’d discovered that the missing Pokémon had returned.

“Don’t worry Jess, we’ll find him. Just you wait. Good night…” Max promised as he slipped into his own bed, drifting off soon after, dead to the world and the fact that Jessie was not asleep nor his thoughts on the painful truth that Ed hadn’t returned and was never going to.

Max discovers that Jessie's slipped past them all and gone straight to bed. He wonder's if the the Pikachu even noticed the new addition to the room...He makes a sollum promise to help Jessi find Ed but is almost obivious to the fact that Jessie's still awake and the Pikachu's thoughts are turning in a dangerous direction...
