Zar'roc was dropped off at the front door as a Shadow Egg. Yaati was quite happy when the hatchling turned out to be an eevee, but Zar'roc was not so happy to see him. The scruffy little furball gave Yaati trouble at every turn, despite the human's patience. His wild, scruffy fur was always mussed as he would not allow Yaati to brush it.

His shadow-ness was expressed in violence and anger. He bullied any pokemon he was strong enough to, and ignored those too strong to bully. He rewarded Yaati's patience and kindness by constantly biting and scratching him anytime the trainer tried to touch him. He had no respect whatsoever for the human until Yaati was given the opportunity to sell him and the trainer refused, choosing instead to continue working with him and believe in Zar'roc's ability to come around.

From that respect grew the seeds of Zar'roc's change. He began to allow Yaati to touch him and to obey his wishes. Slowly he began longing for love and friendship. Zar'roc eventually made the decision himself to go get purified.

These days, Zar'roc is much happier and fiercely loyal to his trainer. Though the other pokemon don't quite trust him yet, Zar'roc respects that he must earn that. He's eager to start building bonds and explore his new emotional range.
