Description Part 2
Chapter 2: Reunion

Lee

I'm running as fast as I can, but the fact that I can't feel my heart beating in my chest throws me off. The beast is right behind me, and catching up, too. I cry out as it takes its enormous paw and easily swats me off of my feet.
I'm sent hurtling towards a small outcropping of rocks. I hit with full force and "pain" rockets through my demon-attired body, except I feel only a slight tingle. I never liked video games, I think bitterly, and now I know why. All of my senses are messed up and I hate it. I can hear, but I can't at the same time. I can breath, but I'm inhaling nothing. I can't even smell at all.
The creature barrels towards me and barely misses crushing my skull with its body. It roars in anger as it collides with the stone, and I take this moment to gain the advantage. I slip a knife from my belt into my grip and send it cutting through the virtual air. It imbeds itself into the thing's right foreleg, where a bright white light emits instead of blood.
Knife after knife stabs the creature in all parts of its mechanical-looking body, and after about half of a dozen weapons, it falls in a heap on the gray ground. I gaze at the hulking machine for a moment, before it disappears in front of me. I feel a surge of anger. Oh, if only it were that easy to get out of this nut factory. If only.
I slap my forehead. "Idiot!" I mutter. The answer is so simple yet so bizarre, that I should have guessed it already. I should have been home by now.
I have to kill myself.
Slipping yet another knife into my pale hand, I stare into its shiny surface before plunging it deeply into my chest. I feel almost nothing, but the strange, digital world around me goes fuzzy until I can't even see the trees anymore.

Cheri

It's in the middle of the night, close to two A.M., when I'm jerked awake from my dreamless sleep by the sound of my cell phone ringing.
I sit up abruptly, groping for my little device on the nightstand in the pitch-black darkness. When I finally find it and answer this call, I hear multiple voices at the other end.
"Cheri, Cheri, is that you?" one voice asks. I consider saying no, but the person on the other side continues before I can even reply. "Cheri, she's back! Lee's back!" I almost drop the phone, smiling through the night.
She made it back. She's alive.
I jump out of bed and don't even change out of my pajamas to run out to the car. My cute little cherry-red car with the beige seats and the little dangly charms on the mirror that Lee had picked out. They're nothing special to anybody else, but to me they're special and beautiful in their own way, especially now.
The radio turns on, playing our favorite song, "Clocks," by Coldplay. Lee always loved music where the main instrument is the piano. She thinks it makes it more breathtaking.
By the time I'm at the factory, I still haven't registered the fact that the radio had come on before I had even turned the key.

Yumi

I stop and stare in partial wonder and partial horror.
She's back.
You're kidding me.
Impossible.
Aelita climbs up behind me, and as soon as she plants her feet firmly on the ground, she gasps. I have to steady her as she gets light-headed, but she manages to regain her balance quickly.
Lee gazes back, seemingly a bit frightened by my stare. So, to calm the tension that flits around the air like worried little butterflies, I give her a small, but warm, smile. She grins too, obviously happy that I'm not as angry at her before for, you know… throwing a knife at my friend. No hard feelings or anything.
As if.
Aelita shrieks unexpectedly next to me, causing me to stumble backwards and almost fall a good fifteen feet to the next floor down. She runs past me and hugs Lee, practically hanging on her neck. I chuckle. Leave it up to innocent, adorable Aelita to be the first one to greet the newbie.
"Did anyone call Cheri?" I ask, and my boyfriend nods and replies that they had.
Odd stands off to the side, smiling softly to himself. I've noticed a change in him, a sort of depression, really, so to see him smiling again makes my heart relax a little bit. I limp over to him, where we watch the little scene in front of us.
"Hey, Odd."
He glances at me, still smiling slightly. "Hey, Yumes."
I chuckle a bit. Since when does he call me that? Since when does anybody call me that? I roll my eyes, and we both sink back into silence. Aelita is practically jumping off the walls, she's so excited. Jeremy looks ready to burst with happiness, and Ulrich is leaning against one of the scanners and grinning. I don't see William any–
"Yumi!"
I jump, causing white-hot pain to sear up my calf. Odd catches me as I begin to stumble, but he yells at my surprise attacker at the same time. "William! What could be so damn important at this freaking moment?" (A/N poor William…I just keep smacking him around!)
He shifts around his mouth is moving, but I don't hear any sounds come out. Instead, my focus turns back to Lee. Her eyes are trained on us, watching the little fight with great interest and with something in her eyes…or at least, I think that she's watching the fight, until I see her eyes dart around and land on Odd.
Oh, mah gawd. Odd's got himself a little fan-girl!
And that's when Lee's eyes plant themselves into my soul, glaring and raging and full of fire.
Crap, I seriously hate telepathy.
Lee's frown deepens. I give her a nervous smile and turn around, as if that could block her out from my brain. Odd was still fighting with William, but I broke in. "Odd, its fine. Nobody got hurt." Lie. "William, just be careful, next time."
William smiles, probably for some creepy reason that I probably don't want to know. "Sure thing, Yumi."
I turn around and roll my eyes when I'm sure that he can't see me. 'Boys,' I think, agitated.
'I know, right?'
I almost shriek, but then I realize that it's only Lee's voice in my head – something that seems to surpass me as normal for some unknown reason. 'What do you want inside my brain?'
'Does Odd ever ask about me?'
I cock an eyebrow. 'You're kidding me right?'
'No…'
I hesitate, turning away from her so it wouldn't look like we're crazy for staring at each other, like we're having a psychic conversation or anything. Pfft, no, that's impossible! 'Listen, Lee, don't take this the wrong way or anything, but we just met you. Besides, you threw a knife at him. Not exactly the best first impression, is it?'
Lee visibly deflates. Luckily, nobody was watching, but they were instead waiting for Cheri to arrive. 'Oh, I see.'
'Just wait a bit and I'll see what I can do for you, but no promises.'
Now she looks like hope inflated her like a balloon. 'Oh, thanks, Yumi! I'll never throw another knife at your friends again!'
I smile and climb the ladder up to the supercomputer room. That is one complicated, messed up, bipolar girl.
But…she's not half bad.
