Description
Frank Oliver was from Australia, and he lived in the fictionalized comicbook world of the Marvel Universe. So you know what that means, right? That's right, he was ridiculously obsessed with kangaroos, just like all cartoon Australians are. Hey, comic writing back in the day was done an hour before deadline while hungover, so it was either this or boomerangs, and they already have a boomerang guy named Boomerang.
Anyway, Frank went and lived with the kangaroos live a bouncy Jane Goodall and learned their ways. Which meant he could jump around real good (no word on if he gained any pouch-related skills) but also meant he didn't have much in the way of marketable jobs skills. But again, comic writers in their drunken haze associate kangaroos with boxing, so Frank became a boxer to earn money. But he kangaroo-kicked a guy in the face, maiming him, and had to flee the country. A tale as old as time.
An illegal immigrant in NYC, Oliver turned to a life of crime, using his jumpy/punchy talents as a thief called - you guessed it - The Kangaroo. *sigh*
At some point, he stole a vial hoping for jewels, but unbeknownst to him, the vial contained a deadly virus. Spider-Man intervened and stopped the accidental release of the plague, but Kanga bounced away and escaped.
Later, the evil Doctor Jonas Harrow "enhanced" Kangaroo, giving him technologically powered leaping and punching powers, making him extra-kangaroo-ish. Silly, but now he was more than a match for Spidey. The Wallcrawler was only saved because Harrow put a chip on Oliver's brain, forcing him to do his bidding.
That bidding being stealing a dangerous radioactive isotope. But Kangaroo was a big dumb idiot and messed up the job, incinerating himself in the process. Oops. Can't bounce back from that.
Another goofy Australian, named Brian Hibbs, later adopted the Kangaroo mantle, fashioned with a high-tech 'roo armor. *mega-sigh*
