Basic Jewel Tutorial — Description

Here's how to draw a simple Jewel

1. Start with a blob of color (preferably a circle) Any color will do.

2. Choose a darker shade of the color you used for the circle. Draw a line along the edge of the circle.

3. Choose a lighter tint of the shade you choose in step 2. (REMEMBER: You don't want to choose a color that's too light, otherwise you'll end up with an almost white color for step 5) Make sure you can easily distinguish between this color and the one you choose in step 2.

4. Now use a color selecting tool to select the color you started with. Choose a lighter tint of the beginning color. (But remember not to choose a color that's too light, otherwise you'll come to a problem in step 5) Draw a line like you did in the previous steps

5. Choose a color lighter than the one you choose in step 4. Don't choose one that's too light, or it's blend in with the white background

6. Since the lines you drew around the outside of the circle are most likely overlapping oddly, you should now draw a line between the two (For example, the color used in step 2 and the color used in step five) Make sure there's an even amount of color on each half of the point

7. Continue doing this with all the sides

8. Make sure the color in the center is in a almost symmetrical shape. Notice how I evened it out to look more diamond-like.

9. Choose the eraser tool and erase any unwanted curves. Make sure to even out the jewel's shape so it looks somewhat symmetrical.
