Description
Okay, this was actually a pallette / expression meme request before I thought of a story behind it.It looks as though alien!Astro has captured regular Astro and is mocking him, before sending in the firing squad. Is alien!Astro's plan to replace regular!Astro and assimilate himself into our world? Or will he simply destroy it?
But don't worry, regular!Astro will find a way out of this, like he always does.
...
Edit: Because of the advice of a friend, I decided to add a background to this. I think it looks a lot better now. And besides, I didn't even have to cheat on the colour palette - I blended the colours of the palette together to make some of the darker colours in this.
...
I hope you all have a good day.

to be honest i dont remember much of what the original version looked like but he was just sort of a box in the corner right? it looks much better this way, now it's like he's stuck in some kinda holding tank or a cell or something, makes a lot more sense. actually it looks more like a monitor, like a display for a camera somewhere else in the facility
the alien one looks all blushy and happy like he's captured his crush or something lol, and the captured one looks all grumpy like "ugh, fangirls!" it's cute
i think it could be improved by putting more thought into what's happening. like say for example, the box in the corner is a monitor/computer screen, and the area where the alien is watching from is his personal bedroom, and he's a huge astro fan and has posters/etc of him all over the place like a rabid fanboy and is all excited cuz he captured his idol. or maybe he put him in a zoo, and there's other little windows with other creatures stuck in them, lol. or maybe he's in some kinda science lab place about to be experimented on, and the square is the peep-window of one of those capsule thingies they put people in for sci-fi stuff and it has tubes coming out of it and gauges and maybe a laser pointed at it or something. or maybe he put astro in a rocket and is gonna blast him off the planet and that's the view through the rocket's cockpit window lol. there's a million things you could do and the more thought and detail there is, the more interesting the picture is.
this version is definitely more interesting than just a box in the corner. .u.

Thanks! Originally, the alien was meant to be mocking Astro before he blasts him off into space on a rocket. I like your other ideas though! Especially the one about the alien being an Astro Fanboy! xD
I did this bg solely with the help of my Gimp circle and square tools. It's true that more can be added to it, but I'd have to print it out and use pencil/inking pen to add the extra details.
I agree that this version looks a lot better than the original version, and the colours are easier on the eyes. ^^

haha, that happy alien :'3
did creeps bother u? :c stupid creeps. i'm sorry u got creeps. block them and hide the comments. ;; if u give up and say "i can't draw so i'll just stop posting stuff' then u'll never get any better.
i'm not really sure what the color scheme is here, but they do go together nicely

Yeah, I love him already (and he's a character I just made up!)
Unfortunately, these aren't the type of creeps who would say things to my face. They'd rather save pics from DA they don't like, and upload them to 'bad art' blogs. But I would block any flamers if any of them ever tried anything. ... I'm not giving up anytime soon. In fact, I've been looking at art tutorials, and I know I can be better if I follow their advice.
I based the colours on two different colour palettes. The original request was for the alien!Astro one, whereas the more natural looking one I decided to add in. (I had drawn a pic of captured!Astro, but I messed up on the body proportions. So I did what any artist would do. Which is to crop it at the part that actually looks good, and make it an addition to this picture!)

that's not what i would do, if something doesn't turn out the way i want it, i stop and consider 'why did this not work' and pinpoint what is wrong, erase it and redo it and focus on correcting whatever went amiss. 99% of the stuff i draw gets erased. pretty much nothing i upload is ever the first try, especially since everything is traced in pen so that always gives me a second chance to make corrections as i go.
if someone posts ur art on another website, u contact the website itself, not the user, and file a complaint through the "contact us" / customer service etc sites have, being all like, with a link and whatever, and tell them this user is posting ur stuff without permission and u want to have it removed. usually the website itself will go and take stuff down regardless of what that user wants, but the actual artist has to come and say so, they'll ignore if ur friend comes or anything else who's not the original artist. cuz that's ur property and ppl aren't allowed to post it without permission. pretty much every website has a rule against " do not post copyrighted images" and that's exactly what it's for. ur art is copyrighted to u and if u don't want to there then they have to take it down cuz legal things.
funny story on my part, my friend said she saw my art on a porn site and she got all upset and contacted them being all 'this is my friends art take it down' and they were like, 'well we're not gonna take it down cuz art theft but we'll take it down cuz it's not graphic enough to be considered actual porn' lol. but i didn't know nothing about this until she told me so there was no reason for me to do anything there, but typically the artists has to personally say 'this is my stuff and posting it here without permission violates my copyright." and whatever etc.
u can also watermark ur stuff. just putting ur da name will let people know where it was taken from and then reposting stuff = free advertisement and a way to draw in viewers from outside dA, but then if they wanna pick on u they can track u down. basically u shouldn't put anything on da that u don't want people to see cuz that is the point of art in the first place and literally anything can go viral due to these folks who just do nothing but repost things and end up with 20 million subscribers on imgur/youtube/whatever and they can lead to ur picture getting massive views overnight when they repost it. so don't ever post anything embarrassing, just stuff u want the whole world to see.
but the cold facts of it is ppl will make fun of bad art. i don't put anything in my gallery unless it's my best stuff that i'm proud of. practice/training stuff i do just to learn, i don't upload that stuff. old ancient stuff that is embarrassing cuz it's so old/bad, i delete that stuff. if i want to draw something but i'm not very good at it, i learn to draw it first, and then when i feel confident with it then i upload it.
if u upload something and the description is like 'please give me advice on what i can improve' then people don't have much room to say anything negative because it reminds htem that they don't know how to improve it cuz they can't draw any better. people are more fun to make fun of when they act like they think their art is perfect just the way it is, cuz it makes them look like they are too stupid to realize they drew a bad picture, and also, when ppl are like 'yeah i know i suck but i don't care' well that means they have accepted that they draw bad art and they want to draw bad art on purpose, in which case they should be prepared to deal with the consequences of ppl making fun of it. "u did it on purpose so u brought this on urself" mentality kicks in. if u openly say u don't care about ur art well then ur saying u don't care if ppl make fun of it either, cuz u don't care. the best thing to say is "help me improve" etc cuz then if someone says something mean about it, it looks bad on the person saying it cuz clearly they didn't know how to make it better, they only know how to make fun of it.
but u gotta be like, actually willing to listen to what people say, and u may be able to get some help that way but if u really wanna draw better u need to actively pursue it, like find tutorials like u mentioned or just actively study and try hard to do better art.
a think to consider tho, bad art is hilarious. people can't help it, but it's funny. or sometimes it's creepy, it falls into uncanny valley territory. u can always just focus on funny art, and then the badder it looks, the funnier it is. nobody can make fun of something that was meant to be funny on purpose. or if ur art tends to accidentally turn out creepy, then go ahead and draw creepy stuff.
but if ur like 'no i didn't want this to be funny or creepy, i wanted it to be really pretty and romantic' or whatever, then u gotta really study hard and get a picture that is the kinda thing u wanna draw, and compare it to urs. what did they do that u didn't? make a list. write down as MANY things as u can. try to put a thousand things. really look closely. prolly the obvious stuff first "the anatomy is better" ok but that's just one thing. what else? usually is like, "they zoomed in more, they don't have all this empty space around the character", "they put a pretty background, not just a solid color", "they used a different angle, so ur looking up/down/whatever at them," "they have a lot of light and shadows and not just flat colors" etc etc etc. the more things u can list, the more pathways u have. u can pick any of those things to start with and it will instantly make a difference. then u pick another thing, and then it goes on and on.
the best way to learn is to draw by reference. redraw a picture ( or screenshot, whatever ) u like exactly as it is. it really makes u look at all the little details, etc. it works best to use a picture on ur computer, then put ur drawing directly over and when it doesn't line up, u'll see exacly what u did wrong ( or put them side by side may help too ). then u make ur list "what is different in my picture than the original" and write down everything, then focus on those things one at a time. i wouldn't upload those sorts of things tho cuz that's just for u personally and the world doesn't need to see a copy of something that already exists ( it's actually a form of art theft anyway ). if u upload that sort of stuff then it should only be stock photography/etc that u had permission to redraw and repost but i can help with asking people to help figure out why yours doesn't look like the original cuz they can say 'well u see this part here' and so on.

I just thought it would be a fun little thing to add, to make the alien pic a bit more interesting. I think the problem was I just don't like drawing tied up/restrained characters in general, makes me uncomfy. Then I thought of a way to fix it, to merge it with this pic. Plus, blue and pink colour palette was too good to pass up.
I'm not trying to make excuses, just trying to explain my thought process, and joke around a little. Truthfully, I'm not as bothered by the cringe people as I made it seem. I'm not afraid to make funny pics, as The Simpsons was one of the first fandoms I joined, and that show is all about being a parody of and making fun of itself. And one of my fave characters in that show was Sideshow Bob, and he's nothing but creepy. I agree that some art on DA is hilariously bad, but I'm not one to make fun of it myself because I realize some people are beginner artists and younger than I am. I wouldn't delete my old art because it's a way of seeing how far I've come. Plus, many of my old pics have meaning to me. I know there's always going to be someone making fun of others, regardless of the quality of their art. That doesn't mean people shouldn't try to improve, of course.
Thanks for the long comment. It's not every day I get frank advice about my art. I thirst for it, but almost no one wants to offer any. My brother is one of the few to give me actual art tips, rather than the typical 'your art is perfect!!" response. Sorry for the late replies, it's harder to respond to long comments, but I do appreciate your advice. I tend to think I ask for con.crit in a mature way, but looking back I may have been a bit of a stick-in-the-mud. I genuinely do want to improve though, and don't want to come across that way.
My mom makes really good wolf art. She watches drawing tutorials, and it's really helped her improve. Tutorials are great! I tried to 'paint along' with Bob Ross one time, and my pic turned out better than it would have without any help.
There's a day I long to make my own (published) comic series. It always seemed like I'd never get there, you know? Because of being unable to draw consistency. But I have gotten better, and I do try to make the art look good. I did take a college course for art/animation one year, but dropped out. It's true that listening to people's advice and actively studying and drawing will help me get better. I think I got to a point on DA where it seemed like nobody cares, so why bother? sort of thought process. /Why bother to add shading to this pic when almost no one will care?/ But you do care. It's a relief really that someone does. I know people say you should do it for yourself, but we all need support. We all need someone who's not afraid to tell us the truth.
I actually did that (the redraw thing) with a pic of Marina (a character from one of my first fandoms ) I didn't upload the pic to DA, but I did look at it to see how the original was different from my style. (My style tends to be a bit chubbier than the original, it turns out.)

Tumblr is where I also submit some of my art. I have a few friends there too. Your art and stories can get popular there, regardless of your total number of watchers, you just have to be lucky. My current most popular artwork is almost at 100 notes, now. (Though, it averages 5-10 notes, usually.)

my online friend is all into tumblr and so i joined once for her and omg i quickly drowned in it. it was just... a mass of just... stuff.... and.... i was just so lost. i think there was a way to like or favorite or repost things or something ( like favs on dA or liked videos on youtube ) but i could never find stuff afterward, and when people would reply to me on things it was just such a mess and just D; ................
maybe i should try it again with a serious intention of figuring it out and making it work.... and maybe it is good to have our stuff in more than one place, riku is like "yo not everyone on the internet is on deviant art" and "i'm sure there's people outside dA who would be interested but they won't know about it because they're not on dA" and so on...

Tumblr is really fun, as long as you avoid the politics or drama side. And the pr0n bots. (If one of them reblogs/follows, you can block them or report them to the staff.)
Yeah, I didn't get it at first either. I was afraid to click reblog, so I just liked stuff! But later on I found out people actually want you to reblog their stuff, because it spreads it around and gets them an audience. Now I've found a blog layout I like, and reblog things often. And even post my own art occasionally. XD

i dont even like D; lololol
i dont understand it, it was just, a bunch of just, stuff everywhere
and i couldn't find stuff i had liked or whatever
like on youtube there is "liked videos" so u can find stuff to show ppl
mom uses facebook and has the same issue, she'll be liek "i saw something funny come look at this" and the scrolls up and down for an hour and can't find whatever it was
i like da cuz i understand it and know how it works tho sometimes i think maybe it'd be nice to try some place new. i almost posted my stuff on adult fanfiction.net once, i think they had a section for art instead of stories

Haha! That makes sense! "A bunch of stuff everywhere." - So true! Even tho I've been on it a while, I wish the archive view was more organized. They don't make everything into a neat little square, and the longer, rectangle posts make the square posts go everywhere - it's so chaotic! XP
I found the place where your "likes" are, like you have to click on settings, then likes, then it shows you a list. I was confused about how everything works at first, too. (I still for the life of me can't find out how to change your blog bg to a picture, for instance. I can put a picture at the top section, but that's all I know.)
The only places I post my art is da, facebook, and tumblr. There's also livejournal, but it's not as popular as it used to be. I just use it as an archive to post my short stories.
Huh, I didn't know that about adultfanfiction. I mostly just browse it for the stories.

i remember back in the day the first time i saw ppl rping online it was on live journal. like i didn't have an account on the site, it just came up on google, and they all had an account for the character and i remember reading a lot of stuff for the people who had a yami bakura acc and a marik acc and they did those little things were it asks u questions and u fill it out and it tells u ur personality or something only they filled it out as the character, and was posting journals of what their character did that day. then it branched out and u'd find oh here's a yugi acc and oh here's a tea acc and stuff
and back then i thought all these people were friends or something xD but that's what ppl used to do on gaia and that's why i liked gaia so much and it's usually one person with mules or just a bunch of ppl who don't know each other and only friended each other cuz 'oh u have a cosplay acc too' and such
i miss that about gaia :/ me and riku still do it of course but it used to be a really common thing to bump into other character rp accounts
there is a site called roleplaylives that is set up to be "facebook but for rp characters'a nd everything is the same except fb don't let u sign up under a fake name, and that looks about the same, u just post and there is no avatar. for gaia it's fun to have the avatar look like the character u play but then it gets down into whose avatar is better and stuff so i can see how just text only where u focuse on what ppl type and how they play the character instead of being distracted by how good their avatar is etc
i can NOT find us a good online game to play so maybe we should look into an rp site instead :/
