Hmmmm, interesting. I wouldn't have known that piece of information. They're not only pumpkins, but Jack O' Lantern type things. I know the Jack O'Lantern is old, but I don't think it was oringinally from France.

Well the tradition is old , and carving was originally done with other vegetables- turnips and other sorts of gourds I think- but yeah, Pumpkins are from America, which in this time period was only on the verge of being discovered by Europe, if it even had been yet
...but it does make a creative idea.. considering that's a executioner's block, and what usually would fall into that basket

No, Disney doesn't waste it's time with historical accuracy. Another historical thing they got wrong was Esmeralda wearing purple. People of prominence were the only ones that wore it and could afford it. Unless she stole the material, which she could have. But to get into the places where these tailors had them, it would have been impossible.

oh yes, definitely true about the dyes and colours there, it's amazing how back in past what colour you wear is a status symbol, still, Esme is very pretty in purple, and more unusual to see among Disney hero/heroine characters- of the classic movies anyway, purple's more used for the bad guys.
