Winchester Model 1895 Rifle — Description
The Winchester Model 1895 Repeating Rifle was designed by John Moses Browning and was produced by Winchester Repeating Arms and the Browning Arms Company from 1895 until 1940 (with some limited edition runs in 1984 and 1995 - today) with about 425,000 guns produced. It had a 5-round internal magazine (meaning the action has to be opened for the cartridges to be loaded) and was chambered for .30-40 Krag, 7.62×54mmR, 7.92×57mm, .303 British, .30-03, .30-06 Springfield, .35 WCF, .38-72 WCF, .40-72 WCF, and .405 Winchester.

In 1915 during WW1, about 294,000 rifles were produced for the Russian Government (chambered for the Russian Military standard 7.62,54mmR cartridge) who designated them as the Model 1915. The model 1895 has seen service in the Spanish-American War of 1898, the Philippine-American War, the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1920, World War 1 (1914 - 1918), the Finnish Civil War, the Russian Civil War, The Polish-Soviet War, the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939, and World War 2 (1939 - 1945).

The rifle is most commonly associated today with former President Theodore Roosevelt who carried a carbine variant; however, it was also used by many other famed hunters and adventurers, to include Martin and Osa Johnson, Charles Cottar, and author Stewart Edward White.
