Description
I really enjoyed doing the first half. By the second half, I pretty much wanted to stop, despite spacing this over several days. It was kind of a practice in self-control, for me to shrink all these beautiful things I like to fit onto the board. This is for . I am in Clan Corvidae.
Texture is from [link] from generous (and high-quality!) resource donator .
Lesson Questions:</u>
Am I proud of my influences or embarassed? Why? I am pretty much indifferent. Maybe a little embarassed, because most are so common.
Do my influences feel relevant to who I am right now? For most of them, yes, absolutely.
Do I want them to be more, or less, obvious in my work? I'm pretty happy with where it is.
Who are my favorite artists? Does their work influence me? Why are they my favorites? What are their weaknesses? One of them might be >_> (What? No brownie points?) Joking aside, she is an awesome artist. There are so many great artists on DA and through history that have influenced me and basically taught me as I went along. So yes, of course, their work influences me. A couple of my favorites are scattered on the moodboard. I didn't put nearly enough for the numerous DA artists that I have found so influential. They are my favorites for various reasons. Generally, attention to detail, subject matter and the creativity or originality in depicting aforementioned subject matter, as well as style, of course.
Who are my least favorite artists? Why? What is it about their work I would like to avoid? What are their strengths? You will hear this a lot, but a lot of the features of work that I try to avoid is making faces too similar! Also, not including enough detail in faces. It's probably my number one fear. Some of them do make very nice style or stylization choices as well as compositional effects. Some other things I see that I try to avoid is making all details of the image too sharp, or crisp, or including too much texture or making contrast too stark. It overwhelms my eye, I don't know where to look, and end up not liking it. Often though, the artist is very good at realistic anatomy and faces.
Choose five traits you would like to see in your work. Beautiful, subtle, distinictive stylization with mastery of the underlying subject matter. Good rendering of planes and subject matter with fluid transitions between sharp and unsharp details. Integrated use of textures and brushstrokes that look natural. Excellent color palettes that really convey mood, feeling, and ambience without being overwhelming. Masterful rendering of form with light and shadow. Hey, I can dream, right?
Choose five traits you want to avoid forever. Uneducated, lazy, or misproportioned anatomy. Flat planar faces. Garish color choices. Undetailed, generic pretty faces. Unnatural or forced fabric folds (haven't gotten past this one yet).
What do I want to do with my art? Learn, learn, learn! I want to really just master certain subject matter so I know them like the back of my hand, so they become easy to render more and more skillfully, and so that I can carry this knowledge over as a tool to whatever specific field I finally decide on. Everything overlaps.
Why "semi-realism"? Though I kind of fail at achieving it, it is just what I really enjoy as far as artwork goes. I really love stylized subjects based on reality without losing sight of what it really looks like. Also, I suck at 'toons.
