Cycle Fawn — Description

Large, imposing and haunting creatures, each one about the size of a moose and seen often in herds. Cycle Fawn are actually incredibly important to the bizarre ecosystem of Fames. They are mainly aloof omnivores; grazers and scavengers that mince through pretty much anything they can get their multiple sets of teeth on. Filtered through the strange skull-like ‘thing’ they carry—which is still heavily debated whether or not that ‘thing’ is its head—whatever comes in, comes out as nutrient-rich fertiliser for the land, mixed in with some spores for more Cycle Fawn to sprout and grow from, because yes, apparently this thing reproduces like fungi, and yes, it is very terrifying to see undeveloped, juvenile ant-sized versions of these already nightmarish creatures raise themselves out of the ground like zombies thousands at a time. Don’t think about it too much.
Cycle Fawn are skittish and wary of their surroundings—without eyes, they rely on the sensitive hairs upon their fur and communicate with each other to avoid danger. Physically, they are quite weak and sluggish, and don’t put up much of a fight when taken down by creatures even half their size. But the moment they detect danger, they will raise their skull-things up high and start wailing (because they obviously weren’t weird enough). Even just one of them is enough to disillusion and confuse most predators, but when an entire herd of them start wailing, or ‘singing’ as some may call it, their choir will cause unsteadiness, nausea, permanent deafness, persistent headaches and even sometimes blindness and nerve damage.
That being said, for some reason, they are a popular wild game for hunting across Fames, and on top of that, somehow the people of Noct Eventon have found ways to domesticate these creatures, using them for consumption: as meat and sometimes even as a delicacy in their small juvenile forms. Cycle Fawn meat apparently has a similar soft texture to crab.
