8 months ago, extra-dimensional portals appeared all over Earth, and our world's got a whole lot bigger. "The Fracture" as it's called now, also had the effect of granting supernatural abilities to select individuals all over the globe. Curiously, they've all been seemingly born with some kind of congenital abnormality.
Shortly after Uzbeki architect Ainagul Sultanova mastered her cryokinetic powers, she became the first recruit of the the superhero team known as the Defects.
