"Daddy! Daddy!" She yelled towards her father as she ran down into his workshop.
"What is it sweety?" Corin said looking up from his latest invention.
"It's today! Today's the big day, daddy!"
Corin smiled, "Yes yes I know sweety. I'm building something especially for you today." The girl practically died holding her breath trying to look over her dad's shoulder from the stair case but wasn't able to see. "Now now," he said, "I'll bring it to you when I'm done. You'd better suit up for your big day today."
"Yes daddy! Of course!" She ran back upstairs. Young Orianna. Today was her big day. Frankly he was worried a bit. Well, of course he was worried. How often does your daughter get a chance to become a champion in the league. Not every day. It seemed like it was just yesterday that she wanted to become a beautiful dancer. But those talents will make up for much of her lack of strength in the league. He walked upstairs to take a peek at what she was doing. He saw her prancing about the fields, flinging tri-bladed boomerang-like metal saws. Her movements flowed beautifully and her aim was deadly accurate. She'd been practicing for this day for-
There was a loud twang in his latest invention. "OH FOR- Come on!" He ran back over. The ball wouldn't be ready in time. It was a ball with a revolutionary style of weapon systems. He'd always imagined a bomb that would blow up but not fall apart. This was it. It could create shock-waves and electromagnetic fields just at a mere thought.
And it would give his daughter someone to keep her company.
He'd have to leave it for later. It was time for her trials. He walked up stairs to meet her.
She stopped and looked at him. "Where's that thing you were working on, daddy?'
"Busted. I'll get it fixed in no time."
"Oh... well that's alright dad," she said, "I can do just fine without it, HA!" she yelled pulling off another blade and hitting the target dead center.
"Hmm if you say so."

And even amidst those final moments, tragedy struck.
Orianna bounded past the turret, dodging the first few shots.
in a beautiful display of grace and dignity,
until Corin noticed a sudden change in the turrets firing habits.
he watched as his daughter was grounded and hammered over.
and over
and over again
each time, brutally maiming his little girl a little more.
He drank himself into a stupor.
Why did he let her?
Why didn't he just keep her from the idea of it?
She never had a chance.
She never got a chance.
He stared at the ball. The oculus flickered slightly.
"No," he said half insane, "Orianna will get her chance..."
