This is the colored version of the cover for Disturbed, one of the stories in the newest issue of Mobius Legends. I've decided I'm going to upload each of the pages I did for this over the course of the next few weeks, adding my comments for how I decided to color them.
This piece was a challenging piece from a palette standpoint. There is a lot of purple in this piece, and I had to make sure to add enough yellow to balance it. If you look at the ground, it shades to purple, not brown or red. I decided to do that because Meph/his minions are also purple, and because purple/yellow balance each other on the color wheel. I also tried to offset Shadow from the rest of the piece by adding the contrasting colors of red/green, thus making him the focal point.
Also, I tried to keep both the shadow cast by Meph's stone, as well as the lava bubbles, in perspective. I actually drew a quick perspective grid over this before coloring it to make sure those things lined up. The vanishing point is just above Shadow's head. I decided to put it there, both because the liquid was already flowing that way, and also so that more attention would be drawn to Shadow himself, as objects moving toward the vanishing point tend to control the flow of the composition.
