Description
Absolute Blue Beetle
Dan Garret, an archaeologist on a dig in Mesopotamia, comes across a hidden chamber in an ancient tomb containing a cradle, a scarab, and a single word etched into the walls Kaji Da. Saying the word activates the scarab and causes it to latch onto Dan, forming a high-powered techno-suit around his body. The operating AI identifies itself as a Tactical Education Drone, which he calls Ted for short. Hero hijinks ensue but, soon after, Dan begins having horrifying nightmares about the scarab and goes to his pal Sparky for help.
Sparky quickly finds out what’s wrong but is terrified by what he finds and is summarily threatened by the scarab, which is piloting Dan’s body while he’s unconscious. Due to circumstances (the scarab, essentially, has anti-tamper software that renders it inert once separated from a host and cannot possess two hosts at once) the scarab doesn’t want to upset Dan but warns that if Sparky tells what he learned it won’t hesitate to kill them both. Sparky keeps his silence, but, in private starts to search for a way to shut down the scarab. Eventually, he figures out how and manages to trick Dan into place, but the scarab finds out a second too late and kills Sparky before its memory is wiped.
After coming around, Dan plays a video from Sparky that explains the scarab came from a group of galactic colonizers called the Reich, that, ever since its activation, its been sending a homing signal to the fleet. The Reich are coming, but, what Sparky did to the scarab would have wiped its programming, essentially formatting the hard-drive and leaving it ready to be re-taught. He encourages Dan to continue using the scarab, because, he may actually be the only hope their world has to stop the coming invasion.
