Description
OverviewThe Type 40 'Puma' is a military armored car known for its versatility and ability to fill in a wide variety of different roles when equipped with different weapons. Primarily purposed for recon missions, the Puma is fast, nimble and agile and can traverse almost any terrain easily with its low ground pressure and individual wheel suspension system. A crew of four operate the vehicle; a Driver, a Machinegunner, a Vehicle Commander and a Gunner which operates whatever weapon system is mounted on top of the car. Light Tryomite Composite armor plating electrolaminated with Aegis energy repellent layers means it can shrug off small arms and heavy caliber fire, though it is highly vulnerable to anti-tank weapons. Like most IRS ground vehicles, propulsion is provided by a Electric Drive and powered by an Etherium Generator which uses photosynthetic bacteria to convert light or excess biomass into electricity. Its small size also allows it to be easily transported by dropships and airdropped into the battlefield, making it a favourite among recon, paratrooper and special forces teams. It has also been extensively used by internal security agencies and militia troops since its small size is well suited for urban operations.
Variants
1) Base Model
The basic model of the Type 40 with no added on weapons and equipment. Only has a forward facing 7.62mm machine gun. Also comes with smoke launchers as a countermeasure.
2) 'Recon Car'
The standard and most common variant of the Type 40, equipped with a 20mm Autocannon mounted in a remote turret which also has an extra 7.62mm machinegun mounted on top of the turret. Used by recon teams to scout out locations and enemy positions. Also used to support friendly infantry by suppressing enemy positions with its anti-infantry weaponry.
3) 'Anti-Tank'
A Type 40 with 2 ATGM pods, used for harassing, ambushing and conducting hit and run attacks on enemy tanks. Usually deployed with Armored Divisions to provide extra mobile firepower.
4) 'Light Infantry Support'
Equipped with a 80mm mortar mounted in a turret. With an autoloader, the mortar can dish out a devastating barrage and can fire a variety of rounds ranging from HE, Anti-Tank, Smoke or White Phosphorous. Often seen with Mechanized Divisions to support infantry pushes and clear out heavily entrenched positions.
5) 'Tank Destroyer'
Armed with a 80mm Railcannon, this variant is an anti-tank complement to the ATGM Carrier variant, though due to the added weight of the cannon, it trades some of its speed for heavier firepower. It can also snipe fortifications and buildings from afar. Also usually deployed with Armored Divisions.
6) 'Missile Artillery'
Equipped with a 4 X 3 missile rack and can quickly saturate small areas with firepower. Able to fire a wide variety of missiles, ranging from standard HE to armor piercing to napalm and even white prosphorous for clearing out infantry positions. Its speed makes it ideal for hit and run attacks where it launches all of its payload and then immediately reposition before enemy forces hunt it down or conduct a counter-barrage. Found in a wide variety of Divisions, including but not limited to Artillery, Mechanized and Armor Divisions.
7) 'Anti Aircraft'
With a 7.62mm minigun and a total of 4 SAMs, this variant is useful as a light mobile AA vehicle for hunting down enemy VTOLs, helicopters and low-flying aircraft. Its speed allows it to pursue strategic airborne targets, ambush landing zones and harass air convoys.
