Oddly just watched the Krotons this last few days - always a welcome treat. Even the misses asked about her skirt and outfit. Just gone into the Ice warriors on Moonbase and I think she might change into an off-white tight leather suit?!? Have to see tonight...

The pose makes me think she's about to go into a martial arts move.

I saw a photo of Sammy Davis doing it with a different Gullwing doored car. Thanks for the favourite!

Yeah and she's so cute and cuddly you just wanna grab her and look after her. She has the big eyes thing like Gabby Drake in UFO.

A couple of years back I picked up all the UFO DVDs in a charity shop. I went through them all but don't know if I'd bother again. Gabby Drake was great and as ever, the Anderson Machines looked good but like that other Live action show, Space 1999 it was very flawed with stilted, wooden performances and odd storylines. I never saw it as a kid but had that Dinky Interceptor toy which puzzled me. Only one torpedo? At least it didn't have Barbara Bain!

You must be more intellectual than me not to like UFO... but I'd falling in love with Lt Ellis way back then and gave her a telegram once in my early life (which I may already have boringly mentioned as I always do) in early 70s and she was lovely, but not dressed right for me! I got the boxed set UFO and watch it once a year and flick to favourite scenes - mostly moonbase themed. I guess they had only just come out of puppets, and the kept a wooden facade for UFO?!? Didn't like 1999 much - liked the amazon maiden type episodes only. I suppose they got to a stage where they ran out of ideals for 1999. That one torpedo was meant to be a nuclear warhead fired at near light-speed UFOs way in front of them. Barbara and what's his name were right divas apparently - and most of the budget was spent on them alone while they lived over here doing the show.

I wouldn't say that. Maybe if I'd seen it as a kid and Ellis in my formative years? There was a sort of Doctor Who/Anderson crossover novel, might have been called The Indestructable Man with Zoe in Ellis's hairstyle on the cover which was quite good. I remember The girl from Deelite had it with a Barbarella type costume on in one video, could have been called Good Beat. On UFO, the one where Straker had to let his kid die to save Earth sticks in my mind but George Sewel didn't do much and Paul Forster lacked. Gabby went on to be in 'Never the Twain' as the object of Windsor Davies' and Donald Sinden's affections.
Apparently Sylvia Anderson wanted Robert Culp for Space 1999 but he wanted to write, direct and takeover the whole show! They had to plump for Landau who got his (then) wife Bain into it. They'd never got payed for Mission Impossible so grabbed everything they could!

Blimey they never got paid for Mission Impossible?!? The higher ups in the industry are cut throat bar stewards to be sure. They are a certain ilk and only think about making money - the UK Carry On (movie) actors apparently only got a few grand per movie even though their success was rocket ship phenomenal. I'll wager Babs got some extra perks though she's never really been hot or sexy to me...can't quite put my finger on it. Sid James like her enough to make up for our short-comings though. Gabby was also in The Brothers which the misses was watching the last year or so... but she said she dies I think so I didn't watch it. I think for its time 1969/1970 UFO still stands up today even, as a hard alien sci-fi series - in that human organs are being harvested and some aliens when autopsied on have occasional relatives organs inside them. America pulled out as channels were changed in the US or something - so goodbye UFO hello crap 1999.

I remember a story that Charles Hawtrey was waiting at a bus stop and a Rolls pulled up. It was Lawrence Olivier who wanted to know what he was doing. "I'm waiting for the bus to get to the studio." "But your films are shown all over the world! Why haven't you got a car? You must be rich!" After hearing this all the way to the studio. Hawtrey went in and demanded more money. They laughed at him and left him out of the next one! I never really got Barbara Windsor though she had an admirable work ethic. I thought Anita Harris was the series cutest nurse and always liked Liz Frazer.'s appeaarances.
I've heard of The Brothers but never seen it, sounded dull. Something that I heard about UFO's 'failure' was that it never had a solid transmission time. The 'Human Organ' stories had t go out late at night whilst others were on earlier in the evening. I'm not sure which channels carried it. I saw some of those weird Stanley Unwin things on Youtube but that never got universal distribution either

Yeah that Hawtrey story sounds very familiar to me too. And stories of various actors left out of a movie or stint, maybe because of money woes, is awful ( "Oh you are awful - but I like you.'' ) really when you consider the professional talent involved and how much comedy gold (I know it was silly slap-sticky and a bit sexist etc but we loved them) and they were treated terribly by wealthy tyrants.
Working in my property maintenance capacity decades ago now (I was always told as a kid to get a trade behind me whatever I eventually do/did in life - "It'll always come in handy!" ) one of my customers, a Jewish guy called Mr Harris (never went to christian names though I did work for him for years) who lived in a HUGE bungalow and we chatted lots and he used to either run or own a nightclub near the studios (I'm guessing where most Cary On's were made) and he would have the Carry On actors/team in the club quite regularly by his accounts. He showed me lots of photos in his study room of him and various actors, mostly the Carry On lot, but he said about the sad life of Hawtrey, and that he was a raving drunk, and would cause dodgy incidents both at the Casino, at studios, and generally, due to his ''persuasion'' if you like... you'd never guess it would you.
But Mr Harris talked about Hawtrey's love of alcohol, which I guess these days we know about, and that he often had him zonked out at the club and would have to drive him home after the casino closed. Mr Harris also liked and talked about Barbara Windsor in a kind of 'I love her' way, and I said to him she seemed a great actor with the ethic you mentioned but she didn't really do anything for me - takes all sorts I guess, boobs or not.
Yes Anita Harris was really hot - striking dark sharp features. A few of my extended family have married into Jewish lines and some of the woman are flipping stunning - even when they age. I've talked to a few of them seriously about this phenomenon, and they mention class, style, fashion - and bloody good make-up regimes.
I loved all the comedy movies where there was an abundance of nurses (went out with one once and found out she was stinking rich would you believe it - beautiful plummy accent and a sex maniac - and that she went to Roedean college for girls since age seven as her father had planned for her to be the UKs first female prime minister - before Maggie of course. So she went into fast track nursing instead.) There was a matron in one of the comedies who was in her late thirties into forties and I found her hot as hell, even though she played stuffy matron in the comedy with a stiff back and a steely countenance. Yeah Liz Frazer always made a welcomed appearance. Stanley Unwinese and his gobbledegook language - what a hoot.

'The Secret Service' was the Unwin/Anderson thing with him as a crime fighting vicar with a Model T Ford (Straker drove his son in it) and a miniaturization device. It's a bizarre mix of puppets and live action like they just couldn't make their minds up what to make. Unwin walks t of his house towards the car, cut to puppet getting into toy car, Unwin drives off in real car! It's odd!
Someone on DA told me that they liked an early sixties B/W TV show with Hawtrey and Jaques called (I think ) Our House. I've never watched it but saw it's on Youtube somewhere.

Wasn't Hattie Jaques having a platonic affair while married to John Le Mesurier? I recall a show with her in it but it never really captured my attention - whereas Penelope Keith was like a guilty pleasure for me... I'm usually good with strong women as they don't frighten me like they do some guys - and my psychology skills help me break down their barriers and soften them up a tad. I start telling them off and they seem to like it. I remember the wife of the misses' boss (Jewish company so same family etc) getting very shirty with me once when I was doing some work in her/their house (They had many rented houses I also worked on) and when I went in the front room when she was showing me something the art on the walls was amazing, and I made a comment on them, and she just went... erm... absolutely ballistic at me for some reason (maybe she thought I might come back and steal them who knows?!?) and because I NEVER hold back I replied back to her: "Who are you fucking shouting at - I'm not your fucking cat!"
She stared at me for ages then burst out laughing - and was friendly as pie thereafter, and she got on the phone to her hubby (my misses was his PA) right after and told him how impressed she was with me, as I'd made her laugh for the first time in months... Mad innit?!? She was like a little sheep after that outburst from both of us - and was always around me thereafter.
Sorry for gabbing on as I write fiction and can't stop key punching once I get going...
