Chapter 5 '10-33' Part Two — Description

I'm back with the logs of the mission but there's quite a lot to go over. You might want to strap in for this one. I'll start where the previous log left off. Much to our surprise, the Innies actually had a sizable camp and a good amount of resources-not to mention soldiers. I don't think anyone expected a cell this size to still exist but it would be just like the skeezy bastards to go dark for years and then resurface at the least opportune time. For us, I mean. Considering the fact the general population-including us grunts-thought the Insurrectionists were wiped out years ago, this was strange to say the least. There had to be a reason they were out here on the border between the Inner and Outer Colonies beyond just stealing UNSC tech. That's all above my pay grade, though; I'm just glad to fight something other than bloodthirsty aliens for a change.

Alpha-Six dropped a few klicks from the camp initially and we moved in on foot to keep the element of surprise. I'm definitely glad we didn't literally drop right into the middle of their camp; I'd be eating my own boot if I'd have jinxed us with my last journal. Once we reached some high ground near the camp, Vega moved up to recon the area. We had the advantage of stealth with the surrounding area composed of light forest and mountainous terrain but like I already said, the Innies had more gear than we expected.

According to Vega they had a vehicle depot on the far side of the camp that consisted of a half-dozen stolen warthogs, a beat up Scorpion tank, and two convoy trucks. They had a sizable barracks too and that meant we'd need to play this smart if we didn't want to get overrun. On this Op we'd been geared with assault kit instead of recon and long-range weapons. Vega was the exception since he was our resident sharpshooter and could keep an eye on us while we entered the compound. With Sandover giving us orders to move in and begin the attack, the three of us made our way down the rocky hillside while Vega moved to a better position on the cliff. This way he'd have a clear view of the vehicle depot and could keep any of the Innies from getting to their vehicles. Everything was falling into place and it was beautiful.
