Monk Runes refsheet!
Rune is 66million years old. He saw the astriod that wiped out the dinosaurs and had to survive the apocalyptic fall out after words. For his back ground, thats all I'llstate as I don't want to spoil the comic, Time Soup. He's one of the main characters.
---------He's not a rat, then what is he?--------
From the Purgatorius genus, an extinct mammal from 66million years ago. Think of it like this but with cats.
• Family: Felidae (the cat family) Tigers, Lynx, ocelot, cougar. Hold many species of various sizes and forms but all in the same family and less specific about the species.
• Genus: Felis (a specific genus within the cat family that includes small cats and the domestic cat) basically, not specific to one species but is more specific than the family. (Where Runes real world references is gathered from. Hes basically a Frankenstein of the Purgatorius genus)
• Species: Felis catus (the domestic cat) or any of the 40+ individual wild cat species. Its now specific enough to only one species, not multiple.
He'll be referred to by his genus instead because it's broader and i don't have to nail the details of his species perfectly especially since on the species lv very little information has been gathered from the fossils remains. Like alot of the specimens are bone fragments and like a jaw pr something. On the bright side, this gives gives me a larger room for creative freedom.

His clothing is made out of things that hunter gathers would collect: feathers, weaved cotton clothing, rocks, coral, bug shells, ect.
The scars across his body are from a lightning strike. He was struck by lightning and then as part of a critical ritual in his monastery, he was selected to become the lightning conduit. A believe that near death experiences with elements of nature would tie a person soul to that element.
The skull belonged to his 1st master, after he died, with what's equivalent to a modern day will, Rune was allowed to perform the ritual and keep the skull as a way for his master to watch over him from the afterlife. Rune fully believes his masters soul is embedded in the mask and some times talks to it when he'sover whelmed.
Anything painted red once belonged to a deceased loved one. This was often done with family memebers, close pets, and in some cases like Runes, mentors. His monastery would conduct these bone rituals on behalf of the living, prearranged by the deceased before dying. They fully believed in lingering spirits and would volunteer them selfs as guardians as a sort of duty that needs to be carried out.
The spikes on his tail are croc teeth and are the only "bone" not painted red as the teeth where gifted to him by his adopted father Ninki Nanka, who is alive. Ninkis a salt water crocodile BTW.
