Description
Spur of the moment. My ink over the late and great Joe Kubert's dry media (pencil, charcoal, can't tell what it is). Should take me a while. Check JK's original and you'll see why. LOL fav.me/d5vlzjeThis makes what, 35 posts? And it's only Inktober 22nd. And I was afraid of getting inked out. Haha.
Working it sporadically when time permits. 30 min sessions.
First pass complete. Now, to clean it up and tweak this and that. A few passages need it. The impressions are legible, if rough. I think this piece with its many figures lit directly and to varied degrees shaded provides excellent practice for the basics - which includes learning to make those ink lines and spots suggest form with the absolute minimum. Things I studied - light zones (high value with thin lines) v.s. shade zones (low value with thick lines), depth by contrast (thin line next to thick line or spot suggests a turning edge, or an edge casting shadow, respectively), lost edges (where light breaks the outline), and the importance of quality reference and analysis for knowing what goes into the details of a thing. It's like JK is deliberately teaching how to do it. XD
