According to Bagdasarian, Alvin is the oldest of the Chipmunks. even though physically he is shorter than Simon.Simon is the middle brother and smartest of the Chipmunks, as well as the tallest.
and Theodore is the youngest of the Chipmunks. In the classic Chipmunks(1960's) he was taller than Alvin until the 1980s where they switched size.
I think it's silly to make Alvin is the oldest Chipmunk. So here are the Chipmunks as how they look in size, or how short or tall each one is for their ages.

My brother, who is three years younger than me and one year younger than my sister, is taller than both of us. I have several friends who are taller than me, one being three years younger. To me it seems probable that Alvin could be shorter than Simon even though he is older. Simon's probably just very tall for his age.
