The cliff-face shuddered with the impact of her landing, snow tumbling free in clumps even as the stone held fast beneath talons like fish-hooks. Shattered plates of armor sloughed off like flesh turned necrotic, the pearlescent veneer of their synthetic material shiny with snow melted and resolidified into stubborn crusts of ice. “But rest assured that they will have no investment in any testimony of yours, unless it might serve further to ensure their personal absolution by which to potentially relieve them of the despondency of their current circumstances.”

Sliding off the ridge of her back, their mouth gaped like a chasm, split in horror and awe and juvenile indignation; their upturned face was wind-kissed and ruddy with the cold. “But surely they must see - surely!”

“To comprehend the world on a larger scope requires a certain degree of awareness and insight - you give them more than they are due.” She replied dryly, with the glitter of something like malice in her eyes.

“To be selfish is to survive, if even only for one scant moment more that of your fellows.”
