Description
Demyx walked Deaux-Deaux down the hall with his hand over the younger boy's shoulders the whole way down to Axel's room."Your gonna like Axel, he's a real fire-crotch." Demyx couldn't stop grinning, even as he knocked on his door.
Deaux-Deaux tried to remove Demyx's arm from his shoulder, but Demyx was nearly a foot taller, and as it seemed, much stronger.
The door opened, with a red-head standing in the doorway, looking like he'd just been woken from a nap.
"Demyx," He paused. "What the hell."
"This is Axel, DD." Demyx pointed at Axel.
"It's rude to point, Demyx." Axel rolled his eyes and leaned against the door frame.
The Nocture nodded slowly. "And Axel, this is DD."
Deaux-Deaux held out his hand towards the fire-headed, tall man. "Deaux-Deaux."
Axel looked at Deaux-Deaux suspiciously, and narrowed his eyes. "Demyx, who is this runt?"
Demyx seemed taken aback. "He's exactly who he says he is!"
Axel bent over and look Deaux-Deaux in the eyes. "What's you story, kid?"
Deaux-Deaux just stared right back into Axel's eyes, with a straight face.
"I told you my story. My name is Deaux-Deaux."
Demyx leaned over to Axel, and cupped his hand over his ear with an astonished face. "He's parts of us!"
Axel pushed Demyx away along with Deaux-Deaux out of his door with a disgusted look. "Tell Vexen that he can use that IOU he owes me... to get that thing," Axel jabbed a finger in the air at Deaux-Deaux. "-out of my life and rid of my DNA!" Axel slammed the door in their faces.
Demyx stood frozen for a second, taking in the situation. But soon after he was smiling and grinning again. "Oh don't worry, Axel's always like that. Been that way after he lost Xion." Demyx got down on one knee and whispered into Deaux-Deaux's ear. "He just doesn't want to lose someone else again."
And while Demyx told this to Deaux-Deaux, Axel's back was leaned against the door, as he breathed in heavily and out. And as Axel slid down to the floor to wrap his arms around his legs and put his head on his knees, Deaux-Deaux wondered who this "Xion" person was.
Axel waiting until Demyx's and Deaux-Deaux's voice faded away, and shook his head.
"That damn bastard. And right after Xion too." Axel mumbled to himself, opening his door. He pulled up his hood, and slipped his hands in his pockets before heading down the long corridor.
Zexion raised an eyebrow at Vexen, who was sitting across from him at the library table. He'd been silent all morning, both of them had. Vexen didn't want Zexion to "squeal," while Zexion didn't want Vexen to unleash his clone.
Vexen sighed, and let his head rest on the books printed page. "What am I going to do?" He asked himself. "Half the Castle hates you already."
"You've got that right," Zexion nodded towards the door. Vexen picked up his head to see an Axel holding the wooden door open, but quickly slamming it behind him.
"Axel, surprised to see you-" Vexen started, but was quickly stopped by Axel.
"Shut it, old man." Axel squinted his eyes. "Explain yourself."
"Axel, I-"
But Axel wouldn't listen, he didn't really need to know the answer anyway. He flicked his hands outward and summoned his two chakrams.
He pointed one at Vexen. "I heard what you did there."
Vexen's eye widened. "W-what are you talking about?"
"Demyx brought someone to my room. Pretty short kid. Nearly Roxas' height." Axel squinted his eyes. "Demyx said that he was "parts of us", and you have three seconds to explain this, before I turn you into ashes."
Zexion gave a sad grin towards Axel. "If your going to do it, please don't do it near here. Burning Nobodies smell terrible."
"Zexion." Vexen hissed, pleading for help with his eyes, but he found none coming from Zexion.
"I'm waiting," Axel moved the chakram closer.
"Well, ah.. you see." Vexen bit his lip. He couldn't rat Deaux-Deaux out now, meaning that he hadn't a chance to do anything to him yet. What could he say to Axel that would make him leave? He certainly wasn't as big of an idiot that the others made him out to be.
Vexen sighed and looked down at the carpet. He could portal out of the library, and maybe if he was fast enough, Axel wouldn't jump in with him. But the idea wasn't probable, Vexen concluded. He'd given his coat, his protection against even darker darkness, to Deaux-Deaux.
"I don't have an answer," Vexen snapped his head from the floor towards his right shoulder, and closed his eyes. "So just, make it quick and painless, Axel."
Axel stood there for a minute, his chakram still in front of Vexen's face. Then he started to slowly lower it, back to his side.
"Then just make sure that he stays out of my way, and out of my sight." Axel then smirked as Vexen opened his eyes. "And please, I'd love to see you come up with a better answer, old man. I'll make sure to memorize it onto your flesh." He turned on his heel and walked out of the library in a swoop of black.
"You could have told him the truth you know," Zexion said over his book to Vexen, who was trying to catch his breath.
"Truth?" Vexen scoffed. "Zexion, that was the truth."
Zexion looked up from his book. "Then you are even more stupid that Axel."
"What? How so?"
"Everything has a purpose. You, me, even this book," Zexion held up the dictionary he was reading. "If something has no purpose, then it does not exist."
"Zexion," Vexen put his hand on his forehead and pushed a bang out of his face. "Why must you tickle my brain with thoughts of things not yet to be?"
"Said the man who nearly just got turned to ashes in the library." Zexion shot back with sarcasm.
Vexen stood and cleaned up his pile of books, and stacked them in his arms. He then said a friendly good bye to Zexion, then turned and mumbled curses under his breath all the way back to his lab.
Demyx continued flaunting Deaux-Deaux off to the Castle, and the reactions to him were mixed to say the least.
Xigbar looked the boy over, extensively. "You can hold a gun?" He handed Deaux-Deaux a Sharpshooter in his private shooting range. As Deaux-Deaux went to aim, Xigbar saw the worried glance from Demyx, so he decided to take the gun back at the last minute. Deaux-Deaux locked onto the gun from prying Xigbar arms. Xigbar finally wrenched the gun away from Deaux-Deaux, and kicked them both out.
Xaldin exiled Deaux-Deaux from the kitchen, after he popped his soufflé with his extremely loud voice.
After a traumatizing incident with Lexaus and Luxord, Deaux-Deaux personally chose to stay away from them.
And on the torture went.
Marluxia and Larxene banished Deaux-Deaux from their garden, after he sneezed away most of the flowers.
Sai'x and Roxas, whom were lounging in the Grey Room, were the last to see Deaux-Deaux, and Demyx was starting to get a bad feeling about showing DD around.
"Maybe we should just call it a day.." Demyx fake yawned, and looked willingly at Deaux-Deaux.
"You can, I think I might wander around for a little while more.." Deaux-Deaux trailed off.
"Just don't drag me into it later!" Demyx called as he dashed off in the other direction.
Deaux-Deaux shrugged it off as Demyx just being weird, and walking into the Grey Room. Roxas was writing in a journal, and Sai'x was planning missions for the other members for the next few days. Both of them were consumed in their texts, not seeing Deaux-Deaux catch Demyx's contagious yawn, or sit on the empty arm chair across from them and the knee-high glass table. Deaux-Deaux pulled his knees close up to his chest, and nestled his head right in a soft spot in the cushion. He let out a comfortable sigh, and let his eyes drift slowly to sleep.
"I.. don't know."
"Well, we're going to have to tell Vexen about this immediately.."
"Why Vexen? Why not Xemnas?"
When the silvery haired boy came to, whispers filled the room, and when he stirred his head, blinking his eyes open, someone hushed the conversation silent.
"But, Sai'x-" Deaux-Deaux saw a smaller blonde boy pestering the other, older in the face with a huge scar and blue frizzed hair.
"Quiet.." The scarier one hissed. The smaller one retreated, slumping back into the couch.
"W-what?" Deaux-Deaux rubbed his eyes, not quite fully awake.
"Hmph." The scarier one folded his arms, then sighed. "Vexen wasn't kidding when he said he had no idea what he was doing."
"W-what?" Deaux-Deaux repeated, not really understanding what the other meant.
The scarier, blue haired man looked down at Deaux-Deaux and sighed. "Your pretty thick aren't you?"
"I don't know what that means..." Deaux-Deaux confessed, sitting up right in his chair.
"Roxas, take him to Vexen. Now."
Deaux-Deaux was still not fully awake from his nap as Roxas led him down the different, and long corridors towards Vexen's lab.
Roxas kept glancing at the silvery-haired teen from out of the corner of his eyes. It was so hard for him to place who or what he was, because all the signs he could place didn't seen to fit.
After the whole Xion episode Axel and Vexen hadn't really been on the same eye level so to speak. Roxas remembered when the two used to actually speak, but now they more of tolerated one another.
Axel blamed Vexen for Xion's ultimate downfall, and Vexen just blamed Axel for being stupid.
Roxas shook his head and focused back onto the boy. They were nearing the lab, and this might be his last chance to talk to whatever Vexen had made one on one.
"So," Roxas said at length, looking over at him. "Do you have a name?"
"Yeah, Deaux-Deaux," He nodded and grinned. "What about you? I can't keep thinking about you as "the short blonde kid who walked me back to Vexen's lab" for much longer."
Roxas blinked, a bit stunned. Vexen made something that can think? "Uh, I'm Roxas."
Deaux-Deaux nodded, then looked down the hall. "Well Rox-as, it's nice to meet you." He tilted his head slightly, trying to think some more, no doubt, Roxas thought to himself.
"Why's that red-haired guy so mean?" The duo had finally walked right up to Vexen's door, but Roxas stared down at his shoes instead of going inside.
"He's.. he's just confused." Roxas said slowly. "You know what I mean?"
Deaux-Deaux nodded after a moment. "Yeah, I do.. I'm a bit confused myself, so I guess I can relate, huh?" He gave a small chuckle, making Roxas give a small grin.
The two began to talk outside of Vexen's door, going into a long and detailed conversation about what Roxas had first encountered when he had become a member f the Organization, and completely forgot about Saix's order to go to Vexen's lab.
Inside the lab however, the old blonde had his nose deep inside a thick book, reading up on some of the old forgotten subject of matter.
After the talking outside of his lab became too much, and he could hear it in every corner of his large lab, he shoved his book down with enough force to make a librain like Zexion scream bloody murder.
Vexen stormed to his door, throwing it open and was poised to glare at Axel and Demyx. They had taken it up to try and annoy the old blonde as much as possible, and this certainly topped the list as annoying things to do to Vexen.
"Axel..!" Vexen threw his head around the corridor, expecting the tall red-head, but only finding Deaux-Deaux and Roxas in his place.
Vexen sighed and put his hand on his forehead. "Gentlemen, pray may I ask what you are doing out here?"
"We're just talking out here, Vexen." Deaux-Deaux was sitting down cross legged, and tilted his head up to see the older blonde. "Hope you don't mind."
"Can't you do it, elsewhere? Perhaps outside of Axel's room if you two plan to talk so loudly?" Vexen looked from Deaux-Deaux to Roxas.
"Hello Vexen," Roxas said quietly, as if trying to make up for the fact that he had just been talking so loud that people in Traverse Town could hear him.
"Hello Roxas," Vexen looked down each hallway, then back to the pair. "Can I help you with something?"
"Nope!" Roxas said, quickly standing up and brushing his coat off. "I just came over here to deliever Deaux-Deaux off to you, Saix said he was going to stop by later."
"Terrific," Vexen said with fake enthuesiam, and Roxas could tell. Deaux-Deaux couldn't, and just turned around back to Roxas just as the short blonde was inching away.
"Where 'ya going Roxas?" Deaux-Deaux tilted his head slightly.
"I uh, I forgot that I have another mission to do!" He scratched the side of his head quickly. "So uh, see you around! Bye!" Roxas grinned then bolted down the hallway away from Vexen and Deaux-Deaux.
"Why'd he run off like that, Vexen?" Deaux-Deaux asked as he slowly stood up and stretched his back.
"Because he's afraid of you, just like Axel is." Vexen said under his breath, turning to walk back into his lab.
"Why are they scared of me, Vexen?" Deaux-Deaux stood in the doorway, his eyebrows furrowed. Vexen sat himself down back into his chair, glanced at his book, then back at Deaux-Deaux.
"Because you bring up bad memories."
Vexen let Deaux-Deaux sleep in his bed that night, as he wasn't using it anyway. Zexion had offered to come and keep Vexen company in the lab, as he was deathly afraid of leaving and bumping into Axel.
"You still haven't thought of anything for him yet?" Zexion kept his voice down, but sat in a chair that he had to bring into Vexen's lab from the library.
"No, not yet." The blonde turned around and picked up the heavy book that was written on the subject of matter. "But I'm getting to that."
"Vexen.." Zexion sighed. "Your being to literal."
"And that's my job, Zexion." Vexen rolled his eyes and shook his head. "If you want wild guesses, go back to Demyx."
Zexion flushed a light pink around the tips of his ears, and looked back down at the book in front of him. "Anyway, Vexen.. You can't stay in here forever. You'll have to come out eventually," Zexion flipped careflessly through the pages. "With or without an excuse."
"It won't be an excuse, Zexion," Vexen said thoughtfully, placing the book on mtter back down. "It will be the reason. I can feel it on the tip on my tongue."
"Vexen, that's just the taste of your dinner I brought you." Zexion shook his head and punched Vexen's arm lightly. "And unless you plan staying up all night, I'm going to head back to my room to get some rest." He stood up slowly, grabbing his Lexicon from a pile of books. "I hope you sleep well, Vexen."
"As to you, Zexion." Vexen smiled at the Schemer as he slowly headed for the door, then headed out into the hallway.
Deaux-Deaux pulled his head back from the crack in the door to sit on his heels, peering through the slit that the door and the doorframe made to watch as Vexen went back to reading silently.
His mind had been reeling from what Vexen had said about him bringing up bad memories for that red head, Axel. It didn't make any sense, and before he could ask Vexen what he meant, the blonde had shoved him off to bed.
He folded his arms angrily, huffing. He was missing some part of this puzzle. He couldn't ask Vexen, at least not yet.
Deaux-Deaux's head perked back up at the door when he heard a book slam shut, and he instantly knew what he was going to do. A small smile crept up the side of his face as he sneaked across the room and slipped back into the bed. Vexen's bed was nearly a king's size, for being a scholar of his level had used to be able to get him certain privilages, like a certain large bed.
The older blonde pushed his bedroom door open and yawned, glancing over at the far edge of the bed to see Daux-Deaux's small frame. It made him smile as a scientist, that he hadn't gotten himself into trouble yet, and that he hadn't self destructed yet, either.
Vexen slowly made his way around the bed towards the side that was unoccupied, then sat down on the edge of the mattress and pulled his boots off, laying them next to his foot of the bed. After he gave a slow, drawn out stretch, he layed down on the bed and pulled the covers up to his shoulder.
Deaux-Deaux waited until he could hear Vexen snoring lightly, which wasn't too long of a wait, then quickly rolled out of bed and tip-toed towards the door.
Zexion was slow returning to his room, his pace matching his thoughts which were dragging slowly through his mind. Although he wasn't tired, Vexen looked very very sleepy, and Zexion knew that if he stayed, that blonde would have been up all night talking and reading until he forcibly passed out. Zexion smiled to himself, knowing that he knew that man too well. Even though he was stubborn and cold, there was a nice person down under there.
As Zexion thought, he wasn't paying attention to the soft sound of footsteps maybe a few yards behind him. A small figure was quietly stalking his prey as it walked down the hallway slowly. He did feel like a predator in the dark shadows, tiptoeing behind Zexion.
And when Zexion finally did return to his room, the figure was quick to slip in through the closing door behind Zexion. The dark shape slowly followed aside Zexion through the small library that the Schemer had, then right up to the door which lead to his bedroom no doubt.
Deaux-Deaux quickly tugged on the back of Zexion's coat just as he went to open the door to his bedroom with one hand. When he felt the tug from behind, the Schemer whirled around with his Lexicon in both of his hands fully prepared to use it as a mallet on an unsuspecting Heartless.
But about an inch from the supposed Heartless' head, Zexion stopped his attack, his eyes in slits as he tried to see in the thick darkness of the library.
"Deaux.. Deaux? Is that you? What are you even doing here?" Zexion looked around, half expecting to see Vexen appear from out of nowhere. "If Vexen finds out that you came over here with out his permission he'll be livid with me."
"What was that face you made earlier?" Deaux-Deaux was about eye-length with Zexion, which didn't make the Schemer relax one bit.
"When? What are you-" Zexion paused, then did a quick and exausted sigh. "Deaux-Deaux, please go back to Vexen's laboratory."
"Tell me about that face, the one you made right after he said "go back to Demyx"," He paused. This wasn't what he had wanted to ask Zexion. He really had wanted to ask about Xion, or about why he'd been "made" or why he caused bad memories around Axel or Roxas. But as he kept walking towards Zexion's room, the conversation between Zexion and Vexen was stuck in Deaux-Deaux's mind. "Why did you make it?"
Zexion thought for a moment, then looked away towards the long shelves of books behind Deaux-Deaux. "Because it was a good joke."
"A joke?" Deaux-Deaux furrowed his eyebrows. A joke meant laughing, not going pink and silent. What kind of joke did that? He wondered. "That wasn't a joke.."
"Your new here," Zexion patted him lightly on one shoulder, then turned around towards his door in the darkness. "so I wouldn't expect you to understand."
Deaux-Deaux frowned into the darkness, starting to become annoyed with this Nobody infront of him. Why would he conceal the truth from him, and treat him like a child?
He scoffed, then turned his head away from Zexion's closed bedroom door back to exit the dark library. He would find his way back to Vexen's lab if it took him all night.
If that's the way you want to play this game, Zexion, Deaux-Deaux thought to himself with a dark frown on his face, a plan already forming in the depths of his mind. Then let the games begin.
