Description
tranded, far away from the known shore.
Up and down and up again. Among the deep waters, I found the rhythmic serenity of the waves. Was I truly lost?
The ship that provided my comfort in this journey found its end in a hateful touch with a formation of rocks. It were so dark that the night hid it away from the most attentive eyes. A blind blow. This ship almost seemed to scream as the planks were breaking apart. A loud prolonged screech, then I felt the water. Nothing more and nothing less.
The man that I was, a business man and by no means a sailor, I grabbed the newspaper I brought along for the journey and I was ready for whatever faith would decide for me.
Already I thought I knew how my end would have been met that night. In cold water that I couldn't even see. No lights to tell me were the ocean meets the sky.
I sat dawn on this old wiggly chair, one gifted by my late grandmother, in a time when this voyage was only being planned. Never knowing why I even brought it on the ship. Perhaps it seemed weird not to bring anything from the dear home with me.
The water quickly reminded me in what position I found myself in.
A weird state of acceptance and disbelief, as my clothes were being soaked more and more, the wood stopped screaming. Can you forget the sound of a sinking ship?
The chair seemed to be unbothered in the face of the elements that got us to the end of the journey. It seemed to hold me quite well, as its legs stood tall and steady, and not a single blow of waves could make it fall apart or even slide down the edge of this ship.
I was euphoric. - Could this be my salvation? - I said to myself. The thoughts of a madman in his last breaths.
