The Goose Neck — Description
Dead Horse Point State Park, Utah, October 15, 2022.

This state park is located in an area between Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park.

The river that you can see is the Colorado River.

Where I'm standing, taking this picture, is just about at the southern tip of this park. Canyonlands National Park starts on the other side of that gooseneck promontory that you can see in the center of the picture. All the land from here and about 3 miles south is not in a park. This area is sometimes referred to as the "Grand Canyon stunt double". Since filming for movies is not allowed in the Grand Canyon, studios instead use this area which has similar features as the Grand Canyon. Somewhere to the south of here and a little left of this picture, Thelma & Louise met there demise.

I understand that the view from Thelma & Louise Point is much more impressive, but the road there is not for the faint of heart or the unprepared.
