A human science-military expedition to an alien world, where a binary star system has led to unique fauna and flora. The planet seems to have a primarily purple and blue coloring, due to predominance of the pigment retinal, rather than chlorophyll. Among the numerous organisms science teams have encountered are large floating coral-like crustacea, and an sea which has demonstrated the ability to react and perform complicated tasks.
