well depends:
if you trust science and evolution, then the the animal from wich chicken evolved also used to lay eggs, so the egg was first, since dinosaures used to lay eggs too
if you believe in some religions and theirs creation storys, that some god created everything as it is, then he had to make chicken first, so in that case chicken was first
