Description
Entry for dAcademy ChallengeI like the outcome of this rehash. The original was treated unfairly on my part, so it was nice to at least try to do it justice

hey, critique buddy.
First off i gotta tell you how much i like this character design. The costume and color pallet suit him well and overall i think he'd damn neat. As for the pictures themselves, i'm personally a little fonder of the first than the second. The pose in the new one is a little more dynamic and there's more movement overall, but it's also a little less natural looking.
Also, the lines: i'm a big contour person myself, so maybe this is just my own hang-up, but i feel like going lineless in the newer version detracts slightly from the more detailed areas (like the embroidery). No lines also allows your pretty limited pallet to sort of blend together (for instance, his hat was difficult to see at first and i noticed it more as an extension of the feather than an element of its own). Adding some heavier contrast and shadow would definitely help define things.

Hey Im in your critique group. I really like the style of yoru new piece, You can tell that you have grown in skill. The new piece is a lot cleaner. I think adding more depth to the background would greatly increase the appeal of this piece

Hullo! I'm in your critique group.
Hurray non-eye-level poses! I appreciate the more visually interesting pose, as well as the dynamic sashes and BG elements. I do have a few items of critique, which I hope will help you: The composition is a little strange in that only the feet are off-panel. Also, the top feather is juuuust going past the edge, which creates (probably) unwanted visual tension. This tension is increased due to how dark the feather is compared to most things. The result is that our eye focuses at the edges of the picture, rather than wandering around it.
the subtle palette is cool! I wonder if you could push the contrast a little, however. This may also be a result of the feather up top, as that's pushing the desire for more dark colors.
I also like that you went for a design without lines. You do have some line work on the hair, however, so that challenges that decision a little.
I like that we don't see his eyes, but I wonder why we don't see his eyes. Perhaps a shadow in that area would help it feel justified. I think the purpose of the whole effect is to make the character feel a bit more distant and mysterious.
I like where this is going. Good luck, and I hope I was helpful!
